In a recently released video, a car in Georgia can be seen speeding into the air after launching off the ramp of a tow truck.

The astonishing incident, which was captured on bodycam video, occurred on May 24 as deputies from the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office were responding to a wreck site along Highway 84 in the southern portion of the state.

Police are seen in the opening seconds of the video standing on one side of the center median of the road close to what appears to be a flipping vehicle.

A car is seen traveling quickly in the direction of a tow truck that is parked on the other side of the highway as a deputy approaches the accident.

Then, that car pushes itself off the tow truck's lowered ramp and soars through the air, stopping in an upright posture.

The deputy could be seen rushing toward the vehicle and is heard requesting EMS aid.

The highway is covered in debris as well.

The driver of the crash, according to the Georgia State Patrol, was hospitalized with significant injuries but managed to survive.

The car "vaulted" above the tow truck by about 120 feet, according to a police incident report, the station stated.

According to WBS-TV, quoting the Georgia State Patrol incident report, the car landed on top of another vehicle that was driving along the highway at the same moment, causing it to be thrown additional 23 feet after impact.

A Lowndes County sheriff’s deputy reportedly was brought to a local hospital after being injured by debris from the accident.

It was not immediately clear what caused the original mishap that prompted a police reaction to the area.

It's also unclear whether the driver of the second car involved in the collision will be charged.

In accordance with Georgia's Move Over Law, which states that "motorists traveling in the lane adjacent to the shoulder shall move over one lane when emergency and utility vehicles are stopped on the side of the highway and operating in an official capacity," deputies told Fox5 Atlanta that the accident is a good illustration of why the general public should abide by it.

“Vehicles included in the law include all first responders (law enforcement, fire, EMS), utility vehicles, DOT vehicles, HERO Units, and wreckers tending to an accident. The law is meant to keep officers AND traffic violators safe from crashes with passing cars,” says a description of the law on the website of the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.

“The Move Over Law was passed in the aftermath of growing numbers of police, emergency technicians and DOT workers being killed during routine traffic stops, crash responses and highway construction projects around the nation,” the website added.

According to Fox5 Atlanta, anyone caught breaking the rule could be issued a citation and fined a penalty of up to $500.
