A chemistry teacher, TikToker @chemwithcorinne, put a message to TikTok to make it very clear to whoever stole her calculator that she would not be getting the budget she needed to replace it and then keep her family comfortable. The problem with teaching in the United States is that you don't have a budget to help you make your classroom more conducive to learning.
Struggling Teacher Begs To Whoever Stole Her Calculator To Return It And The Internet Steps Up Big Time
The chemistry teacher posted this message to TikTok: “To the person who stole the calculator I’ve had since high school: Please return it. Have a friend drop it off or leave it by the door. My kids need new jackets and shoes, and I can’t afford to replace them. Thank you, Mrs. L.”
Several images of her young children accompanied the note on the whiteboard.
The TikTok, which has gained more than 590,000 views since Oct. 14, was accompanied by the caption, “There is a good ending to this story, stay tuned.”
The reaction in the comments section was overwhelmingly positive. Several people asked whether they could send her their graphing calculators or money to buy her a new one, as well as jackets and shoes for her children.
“I’ll mail you mine that was a gift from my late father for the SAT. Please let me know,” wrote Ashley Timm.
“Do you have an Amazon wishlist for your classroom? I want to help,” @solojen asked.
Mrs. L responded to @solojen, informing them that she had recently resigned from her position as a chemistry teacher and that she had pivoted to be a full-time "toddler mom," according to her bio. In response to several wonderful comments, the former teacher declined their donations but encouraged them to utilize their money to support their local schools.
Mrs. L provided an updated video as promised.
In part two, the former chemistry instructor says she's been overwhelmed by the response, even though she never received her calculator back and has no idea who took it. It wasn't just strangers who wanted to help; her students asked if they might start a GoFundMe or donate their own money to replace the calculator.
Mrs. L, on the other hand, was surprised to see two coats in the precise sizes for her toddlers on the doorstep of her classroom. The gesture had an obvious impact on the teacher.
