Isabele Ramos Guimaraes, 14, was shot in the face by her best friend in Brazil. The killer, who can't be identified due to her age, was a keen shooter.
Isabele went to her best friend's house almost every day as they lived in the same housing complex.
After inviting her over to bake a lemon pie together, the teen, 15, gunned down Isabele Ramos Guimaraes. Isabele had said her best friend was in a "toxic relationship" and her boyfriend was "jealous and manipulative and made her stay away from her friends". The vicious murder occurred at the home of her murderer in the Brazilian city of Cuiaba.
It was about 10.30 pm in the bathroom when the teenage girl shot her victim. She told the police that the shot had mistakenly exploded, but later investigators found that it had been purposely fired. The perpetrator, her family, and her 16-year-old partner were avid shooters and were at the time in the building, but just before the shooting, the boyfriend had gone home.
He left his weapons at the farm, supposedly, because he had a problem with one of them that his girlfriend's dad, Marcelo, had promised to repair.
Isabele told me that her friend's courtship was toxic because the boy was jealous and manipulative and made her stay away from her friends. As they lived in the same housing complex, Isabele went to her best friend's house nearly every day.
Isabele's mother, Patricia Hellen Guimaraes, confirmed, amid the pair's relationship, that the girls had been more distant after the suspect began dating her boyfriend at the end of 2019.
The businesswoman told BBC News Brasil last year: "Isabele told me that her friend's courtship was toxic because the boy was jealous and manipulative and made her stay away from her friends."
She added: "I can't say if there was any jealousy between the couple and Isabele, but my daughter was very beautiful, intelligent, and witty. I can't say what happened that day."
If the girls protested minutes before the trigger was pulled is unknown. Patricia believes that they may have had a disagreement, an accusation that the accused denies.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the parents of the perpetrator, her brother, and the father of her boyfriend were all charged with various incident-related offenses. Despite the lenient sentence, which was condemned by many netizens, Patricia commented: "My daughter's dead, but I'm relieved, certainly, because I've lifted a weight off my shoulders."
The child, who cannot be appointed on moral grounds, was sentenced to a term of three years' imprisonment in a socio-educational program to be checked every six months.
