61-year-old Yazemeenah Rossi is not your average senior citizen. Land of Women and The Dreslyn have chosen her as the face of their collaborative line of swimwear. The Dreslyn founder, Taylor Corcia picked Rossi specifically because she radiates vitality and health.
Corcia wants to change the focus on sexuality that swimwear ads usually feature to a more body positive message. To this end, picking Rossi was a no-brainer.
Corcia said: "She’s confident, she’s a visual artist, she takes care of herself. This line is all about being a person who’s well-lived and well-traveled and has intelligence and confidence, and letting that shine through."
According to Rossi, her healthy diet has contributed heavily to her longevity and youthful looks. The French-born Malibu resident thanks her Mediterranean heritage for much of her good looks. Rossi treats olive oil as a kind of youth formula that she uses on her hair and skin along with including it in her diet.
She said: "I come from a very simple background where we used olive oil to cook with. Olive oil was used on our hair and skin – nothing else."
She continued saying: "The media makes us believe that we need this or that to have a great skin so that products can be sold." Rossi doesn't subscribe to that thinking. Instead, she uses a mixture of olive oil and sugar as a facial scrub. She also has found that rapeseed oil is amazing at keeping your hair looking great.
Rossi does believe that it takes more than just the right substances used on your hair and skin to keep you looking great. Your diet also plays a huge role in how you look as you age.
She said: "The best thing for the skin is to eat enough healthy fats on a daily basis and to oxygenate well while exercising. I never eat processed, frozen, microwaved or low-fat food."
Organic foods are the only foods she will eat. She says she has been a proponent of organic living long before it became trendy to do so. She makes sure to consume lots of healthy fats from avocados to olive oil, even going as far as to eat an avocado every day.
If you want to try and include more good fats in your diet try replacing white fish with mackerel or salmon and don't forget to use lots of olive oil and avocados in place of regular salad dressings.
Avocados taste amazing when spread on a piece of wheat bread with olive oil and tomato. You can even try avocado smoothies if you're feeling adventurous. If you change your diet, you too can look like Rossi.
