Coffee is one of the most energizing things out there. Everyone drinks it! And some people even make face masks with coffee… Maybe you didn’t know, but coffee is one of the most popular ingredients in the entire cosmetic industry. In fact, all you have to do is take a look at your beauty products to see that many of them contain caffeine. So, if there are so many creams, soaps, and lotions with caffeine, why not use it in its most natural state?
Here, we’ve rounded up some ways to incorporate coffee into your beauty routine that even a tea drinker could love.
#1 Minimize Cellulite
No matter how much we work out—or even how naturally thin we are!—cellulite is something we all struggle with. A coffee scrub can be immensely helpful in minimizing the appearance of cellulite, as the exfoliation and massage work together to help stimulate blood flow and tighten the skin.
#2 Help ward off skin cancer
According to the results of a study published, you may someday slather coffee on your burn-prone parts to protect your skin from sun damage. Researchers found that topically applied caffeine helped protect against some skin cancers at the molecular level by inhibiting a protein enzyme in skin. In the meantime, protect yourself from melanoma by reducing sun and UV exposure.
#3 Reduces puffiness under the eye
Under-eye dark circles and puffiness—caused by genetics, allergies, fluid retention, and/or lack of sleep—are a common beauty complaint. To remedy the baggage, apply chilled coffee grounds to your under-eye area, let sit for 10 minutes, and rinse well. The anti-inflammatory properties in caffeine magically constrict the blood vessels, resulting in a reduction of under-eye swelling.
#4 Exfoliates
Old coffee grounds can also be used as an exfoliator to remove dead skin and also reduce the appearance of cellulites. For an easy DIY scrub, simply use leftover grounds and rub it on the skin for smoother and softer skin. You can also mix coffee grounds with a spoon of olive oil and sugar for a more deluxe scrub.
#5 Soothing tired, dry feet
Coffee is also an excellent ingredient to use as a foot scrub, as it can not only help in the removal of dead, dry skin cells, but it can help soothe tired feet after a long day. Treat yourself by making this fabulous coffee foot soak. All you need to do is brew about two-and-a-half-cups of coffee – you want real coffee, and preferably organic, so that you aren’t getting any toxins in your foot soak. Allow it to cool for about 30 minutes first, or to a temperature that feels soothing to your feet. Now, fill a bath with warm water, enough so that it covers your feet completely, and add a half-cup of coarse sea salt, which offers exfoliating effects (avoid fine sea salt as you won’t get those important benefits). Next, add a couple of teaspoons of coarsely ground coffee and a few drops of pure vanilla extract, which adds to the relaxing effects. Dip your feet in the coffee soak and relax – 30 minutes is ideal. When the water starts to cool, just mix in a little more hot water to keep the temperature to your liking.
#6 Softens Lips
Chapped cracked lips can be rough and unsightly. Make a coffee-infused lip balm to make your lips soft and kissable again!
Delicious Lip Balm: Infuse 2 tsp of ground coffee in 1 tbsp of coconut oil for 2 – 4 days. In a double boiler, melt down 2 tbsp of cocoa butter, 1 tbsp of the coffee-infused oil until liquefied. Then add in 5 drops of vanilla extract and voila! Your coffee lip balm is ready! Pour into chapstick tubes and apply whenever needed!
#7 Skin Brightening
Take some warm filter water in a bowl and add some Epsom salt and coffee ground to it. Let it stay for a while and then rinse your face with this solution. After this, use the coffee ground ( soaked in the same solution) for exfoliating the skin and then again rinse with the same coffee ground water. This will improve the radiance of your skin because of the property of coffee to make a protective barrier around our skin and keep it healthy from the attack of virus, bacteria, fungus etc.
#8 Face scrub
This ingredient works great as a scrub as it is not harsh on the skin. Try a natural scrub by mixing ground coffee, brown sugar, and olive oil. Once you have mixed it well, massage it on your face in circular motions to buff away the dead skin cells.
#9 Enhances Hair Color
Enhance your dark hair using coffee! It said to bring some nice tints to brown or black hair and strengthen the strands. Here’s how to use it: Mix 1 tbsp of freshly brewed coffee (make sure it cools down first) and 2 tbsp of conditioner. Apply it on your hair and let it sit for about 5 minutes. Rinse off and enjoy!
#10 Reduces acne
Beauty experts highly recommend coffee to treat acne due to its anti-inflammatory properties. For an acne reducing exfoliator, just mix coffee grounds (not instant coffee) with ½ tsp coconut oil and ¼ tsp of cinnamon or turmeric. The anti-bacterial properties of all the ingredients will not only reduce the appearance of acne but also halt further growth of acne causing bacteria.
