This teacher quit dramatically in front of school board to make a point with regard to her anti-trans beliefs saying she refused to take the chosen names and pronouns of her trans students.

The school board for Loudon County had arranged a meeting over allowing trans students to “use their chosen name and gender pronouns that reflect their consistently asserted gender identity,”

This meant teachers would be required to adhere to these changes and refer to students using their chosen names and preferred identities.

Morris who calls herself a “believer of Christ”, further added,

“You’ve made your point. You no longer value me, or many other teachers you’ve employed in this county. So since my contract outlines the power that you have over my employment in Loudon County Public Schools, I thought it necessary to resign in front of you.”

She further added,

“School board, I quit. I quit your policies, I quit your trainings, and I quit being a cog in a machine that tells me to push highly politicized agendas on our most vulnerable constituents – the children. I will find employment elsewhere. I encourage all parents and staff in this county to flood the private schools.”

Commenters were of the opinion that perhaps her resignation was for the best.

"Good. If she can't even bring herself to use somebody's name she has no business being a teacher."

Another said,

"Claiming that the trans-inclusive policy goes against her views as “a believer in Christ" Look, if you believe Jesus can make water transition into wine and that his body transitioned into a bunch of tasty crackers you can call students by their names. Only hate remains."

This commenter added that being a Christain didn't mean not showing respect and kindness to others.

"If she’s really a Christian she would know god wants you to respect everyone 🤷‍♂️ seriously, don’t people even think about what their god would really want and try to use those lies as an excuse to make him sound bad? I’m sure there are more religious then gay people in hell 😂"

"So she quit because she can't be bothered to respect students. She is in the wrong field, then, and should find a new position.", added another.

This commenter was furious at the lack of support she was showing, considering the profession she was in.

"Honestly cannot believe I've just read this. If a student is Jane on Friday then john on Monday. Can you imagine what the STUDENT has been though. The bravery, pain and honesty. I think this lady should be sacked no benefits nothing. Quitting is too easy for her. Shame on her😡❤"

"If you cannot treat all students with respect, you have no place as a teacher. If your religion prevents you from treating LGBTQ+ patients, you have no place in the medical or mental health professions. Treat and teach all or none. Be a decent human being FFS."

Luckily, the school board went forward with their decision of furthering support for LGBTQ students despite Morris' resignation.
