Dad Chris Piland posted a photo of his son Kamdyn's math test on Facebook. The teacher had written 'absolutely pathetic' across the top of the second-grader's test.

A teacher should be a person who supports the students – no matter what.

We are all born with different capacities and talents, but nothing or no one improves with destructive criticism. I thought this should be very clear for someone who works with young children.

Kamdyn Piland is a 7-year-old boy who was humiliated by his teacher for not performing well on the math test. She wrote on his paper that “he answered 13 in 3 minutes” which she found “sad” and “absolutely pathetic.” Yes, these words are exactly what she put down on Kamdyn’s paper along with a sad face.

When his father Chris saw the test, he was outraged. He couldn’t possibly understand how those words would encourage his son to be better the next time. Reading that his work was described as pathetic only affected the boy’s self-confidence in a negative way. When Chris confronted the teacher in question, all she had to say was, “I’m sorry you feel this way.”

So Chris took to Facebook calling the teacher out. He wrote: “My son Kamdyn’s teacher has been so rude to him and myself all year he comes home with this and I am beyond frustrated that someone would write this on a child’s work such great motivation.”

The test included 60 subtraction problems and students were meant to answer as many as they could in three minutes.

The teacher, identified as Alyssa Rupp Bohenek, had written the remarks across the top of the boy's test with a red pen. Speaking to Fox56 News, sweet Kamdyn said, “She made me really sad and upset. I was really mad. And (it was) really mean to do.”

Since the incident took place, Chris decided to take Kamdyn out of her class and didn’t know how and if the school had done something regarding the issue.

“Maybe it’ll be taken seriously now and it’ll keep it from happening to other teachers and other students,” Chris Fox56 News.

His post gained traction on Facebook and a petition soon started circulating called for the Valley View School District to fire the teacher.

The Change.org petition had been signed almost 10,000 times by Friday morning.

School superintendent Rose Minniti said she was made aware of the test on Tuesday and the district has already met with Bohenek to investigate.

'It's a personnel issue and the results of that are not going to be dictated by social media,' Minniti said.

'It's going to be dictated by the facts and evidence.

'As always with everything, we're going to try to do what's best for the students and what we need to do for the employee under investigation.'

Bohenek has been working as an elementary school teacher since 2013.

We are convinced that with the right amount of support and encouragement by Kamdyn’s new teacher, he will thrive and will get better and better with each passing day.
