These children began their lives of crime at a very young age, and most were so well executed that they were better at hiding it than most hardened criminals. You may think kids are just being kids, but these thieves and robbers took child's play to a whole new level.
#1 The Most Well Planned And Daring Crimes By Children
At least 1,200 people every year serve life without parole for crimes they committed as children. But what leads them to this behavior? Some say society, others think it's inherent. Some of the most well planned and executed crimes in history have been pulled off by teenagers. Some get away with the crime and some are discarded as being mischievous teens but for those caught, it's just the beginning of a life of daring criminal acts.
#2 Young Female Bank Robbers
In 2009, two brazen teen girls, age 12 and 14, entered a bank in Symmes Township, Ohio, south of Cincinnati, and handed the teller a note. The not asked for an undisclosed amount of cash, and mentions they could harm the teller if she didn't follow instructions though they did not appear to have any weapons.
There were no customers inside the bank and nobody was hurt. The two 'baby-faced' teens were never caught and even though they were captured on film at the bank, the picture wasn't sharp enough for anyone to identify them.
#3 The Barefood Bandit
Colton Harris-Moore started his life of crime at the tender age of seven. He broke into houses, stole cars and robbed markets in the state of Washington. He became known as the "Barefoot Bandit" by reportedly committing some of his crimes barefoot, and his signature mark at the scene of the crime was chalk footprints and the word "c'ya!".
#4 He Was Finally Captured After 12 Years Of Crime
After he broke out of a juvenile detention facility, he was able to evade police for over a year by stealing at least two boats and three planes. He was captured in the Bahamas after his footprints were at the scene of an airplane crash. He is currently residing in Stafford Creek Corrections Center, Aberdeen, Washington. Harris-Moore has had three different movies made about his life of crime.
#5 The Big Art Heist
In 1976, 16-year-old Laurence McCall, a teen-aged school dropout began stealing paintings from a Philadelphia museum. He would steal the pieces one at a time over the course of three years from the same museum and sell them to an auction house in New York City. He stole two painting first and let them sit in his basement, not knowing what to do with them. After two months he got up enough nerve to take them to Sotheby's Auction House, where they earned him $34,000. His life of being an art thief was on a roll.
#6 He Was Living The High Life When Arrested
When he was caught in 1979 at age 19, McCall was living in an upscale condominium in Center City. He admitted stealing more than 50 paintings during his career, 40 from the same Philadelphia museum, and about ten from 3 various locations, netting close to $500,000 in total.
#7 Baby Faced Nelson Would Be Proud
At the very young age of 11, in 2002, Bradley Wernham started burgling homes in Essex, England. He was charged with 600 offences, totalling an estimated £1.1 million in stolen items. He was arrested in 2011 at the age of 19 when police began tracking him after a release from jail on a small burglary charge. Within days he was captured trying to steal a BMW from a nearby neighborhood and admitted to 600 crimes though investigators have suspected that number to be closer to 660-700 in total.
#8 The Bling Ring
The Hollywood 'Bling Ring' was a group of eight teenagers based in and around Calabasas, California. The victims, all Hollywood elite, were targeted due to their being considered fashion icons by members of the group. They found the houses of their targets using Google Maps and used social media to get an idea of the celeb's coming and goings as to where they would be performing or dining. The seized these openings to collectively enter the mansions of the rich and famous and rob them blind.
#9 The Stole From Famous Celebrities
They burgled the homes of several celebrities over a period believed to have been between October 2008 through August 2009. Their activities resulted in the theft of about $3 million in cash and belongings. Much of the stolen property belonged to Paris Hilton, whose house had been burgled several times. One of the thieves said, "why would someone like Paris Hilton leave their doors unlocked?"
Besides the several robbery's at the Hilton home, they also broke into the homes of Orlando Bloom, Nick Nolte, Simon Cowell, Brian Austin Green and Megan Fox, Lindsay Lohan, Kourtney Kardashian, Hayden Panettiere and Sharon Stone.
An unidentified tipster informed police of the 'Bling Ring' after one of the thieves were captured on video in the Lohan residence. When brought to justice, the gang admitted they also had planned to target Miley Cyrus, Zac Efron, Hilary Duff, and Vanessa Hudgens.
Lifetime produced a movie based on the events in 2010 and in 2011 a big screen adaption was made with Emma Watson starring.
