Introduction

Instead of a small triangle Bellos says in a YouTube video that you need to cut a round cake directly down the middle in order to preserve it and make your leftovers taste even better. Which is very important, because after you have cake for dessert on your birthday it becomes your breakfast for at least one week. Bellos cites a science magazine from 1906 and follows the notes and illustrations to cut the cake. This is how you should be cutting your cake:

To get the most out of your cake, start by cutting two slices down the middle. You can then cut that big slice into pieces for people to eat.

#2

Then bring the cake back together, so that it's still a circle.

#3

Put a rubber band around the cake so that it stays in place and put it in the fridge.

#4

The next day cut another slice down the middle, like in step one.

#5

Bring your cake back together, and repeat the above steps every time you want a piece.

This is life-changing! Instead of living off of stale birthday cake, it will be delicious and fresh and you will look smarter than all of your friends because you aren't cutting little triangles and butchering a beautiful cake. Watch Bellos' full video above.
