New York’s Brooklyn restaurant, "Eat" goes viral when it introduces a 90 minute session of complete silence during meals. Nicholas Nauman, the head chef and creator of this movement, says that he was inspired by this after spending some time with Buddhist monks in India sometime this year.
He says that it gives you an experience of calmness and concentration on what we eat rather than on the noise and confusion that surrounds us during our meals.
Although overly priced, it has attracted customers to gain this unique experience before which they are required to make reservation via email and decide their four course menu online.
All meals served are vegan and are made from fresh and organic produce. To cut into the silence, customers can have some background noise with the occasional clinking and clanking of cutlery, silver ware and even pots and pans in the kitchen by the cooks. "Eat" owner Jordon Colon says "It's kind of like a meditation," "The silence speaks for itself."
