#1 The hymen is not a virginity lie detector. Not at all.
What follows are several common misconceptions about this very misunderstood part of a girl's anatomy.
#2 They say having sex for the first time will hurt. This is not always the case.
And if it does hurt, it may not even be a result of the hymen tearing during first time sex.
#3 Finding blood on the sheets won't tell you anything about her sexual history.
If there is blood on the sheets it may or may not indicate a broken hymen. Rough first-time sex could be the real culprit.
#4 Another non-hymen related reason why blood might be found on the sheets.
She could be feeling anxiety or stress over a brand new life experience. And since she doesn't really know what she's doing the first time and is probably distracted, there is less chance of proper lubrication.
#5 The hymen of a virgin may have been torn away ages ago without her being aware of the fact.
Very active women can tear their hymen by exercising rigorously, or by masturbating.
#6 Another popular misconception: The hymen forms a solid barrier.
If the opening was truly sealed, she would probably just explode during her first period.
#7 Having sex won't always destroy the hymen.
The hymen may stay fully intact even after a woman has been sexually active for some time.
