Christopher Porco was convicted of killing his father and attempting to murder his mother with a fireman’s ax. After the attack, his father went about his regular morning routine, unaware that he was dying. He walked into the kitchen, packed a lunch, signed a cheque to cover his son’s parking tickets and attempted to unload the dishwasher. The blow to the head cut off a part of his brain where the judgments are being made. Therefore, he couldn’t assess what was going on and did everything he normally would as per memory. The court reenacted the murder step by step.
The Walkthrough Of The Creepiest, Craziest Crime Scene Ever!
#1 A Happy Family
Joan and Peter Porco had been found seemingly murdered in their own home on November 15, 2004 in Bethlehem, New York. There was blood everywhere and it was almost impossible for detectives to determine what had occurred in the home which they shared with their son Christopher.
#2 Police Arrived At The Home In Shock
The police were familiar with this home, as they had been there previously for two different attempted burglaries. Once they discovered two laptops missing, the other, nothing was missing. But this time, it was clear there was no burglary. Nothing was taken and the key was under the doormat. They instantly believed it was an inside job and thought it was Joan's younger son Chris, who had stolen the two laptops in the other burglary and sold them on eBay.
#3 The Couple Attacked In Their Sleep
A medical examiner later determined that 52-year-old Peter sustained massive head injuries causing his death. But that's not how the story ended. It has so many bizarre twists that it's hard to believe it actually happened the way it did.
#4 Joan Was Hit Five Times By The Attacker
When crime scene detectives swarmed the bedroom they were shocked. Joan was alive! Joan, the wife, was lying in the bed with severe head and facial trauma. She survived the ordeal but lost her left eye, a portion of her skull and her face was left disfigured. But that's not the rest of the story either. When asked if Chris had done it she shook her head yes, but he was 800 miles away at school.
#5 The Weapon Of Choice Was A Fireman's Ax
The murder weapon used in the attack was a fireman's ax. The ax was found just lying in the couple's blood-drenched bedroom next to Peter's bedstand. Peter's wallet was missing and the drawers to the dresser and bedstand were opened.
#6 The Story Gets Pretty Weird
Now here is where the story really gets bizarre. After Peter, the father, was attacked in his bed by someone with an ax, he got up and went about his daily morning routine as though nothing had ever happened.
#7 Peter Was Drenched In Blood But Got Up And Ready For Work
He apparently walked into the kitchen, packed a lunch, signed a check to cover his son's parking tickets and attempted to unload the dishwasher. Finally, he collapsed on the floor and died, leaving the macabre but mind-boggling scene for police to discover.
#8 The Courtroom Walkthrough
The courtroom walkthrough of the crime showed that son Christopher Porco decided to butcher them brutally with a fireman's ax while they were asleep. Peter was a college student who was failing in school and had some trouble with the law, including racking up a ton of parking tickets, theft of property and forgery.
#9 Apparently Peter Was Still Alive But Unaware Of His Wounds Or Any Pain
The District Attorney in the case showed that Peter got up from his attack after 16 blows to his head with the ax that penetrated his skull and took off his jaw. Unaware he is suffering from a deadly attack or that his wife is bleeding to death by his bed, Peter gets up because he has a routine to follow. He uses the bathroom, shaves, the entire time leaving a trail of his blood throughout the house as he made his way down to the kitchen.
#10 He Did His Regular Morning Chores And Even Went Outside Covered In Blood
Once downstairs, Peter loaded the dishwasher, packed his lunch for work, and even wrote a check for his son, Christopher, to cover all of those parking tickets. He then walked outside to retrieve the morning newspaper and locked himself out. He then found the hidden key under the door mat and let himself back inside. Blood was dripping everywhere he stepped foot or touched.
#11 He Falls To His Death Upon Re-entering The Kitchen
Detectives say it was then, and only then, that Peter finally dropped dead, falling to the floor in the hallway heading back to the kitchen. Christopher had claimed he was at school in Rochester, NY, and the police started questioning his older brother Jonathan and his cousin, who was a known mobster. Both those investigations fell short, leading back to Chris.
#12 The Plot Twists Even More
The mother, Joan, survived and was in total denial, believing her son was innocent of the charges despite the overwhelming evidence, and the fact that half her brain was damaged in the attempt to murder her. She had no recall of the incident at all, so her testimony that Chris was guilty was discarded. The two lived together during his trial and walked together to court. She maintained that a burglar had entered the home and killed her husband, though that was proven to be doubtful.
#13 He Was Convicted To Life In Prison In 2006
Police discovered that Chris had not been at school the night before and was actually in town when the incident occurred. He had just purchased a yellow Jeep in his father's name without permission and it was seen at multiple toll booths along the highway.
On December 12, 2006, a jury decided Proco's fate. Cristopher was sentenced to 50 years to life on each count totaling a minimum of 50 years in prison. His appeal is denied and he will never be up for parole. His own attorney later reported that he believed his client was guilty.
