Loving parents, Justin and Kristi, have decided to share the heartbreaking photos of their daughter's last moments while she desperately waited for a heart transplant.

2-year-old Adalynn was born with a devastating congenital heart defect and died in a children's hospital in Nashville Tennessee surrounded by her parents and siblings.

One of the many heartbreaking pictures shows her brother trying to hold back his tears after Adalynn's death was confirmed by the hospital staff.

Suha Dabit, the founder of "World of Broken Hearts" was allowed to photograph the heartbreaking situation as a way to raise awareness about the condition that cost Adalynn her life.

On November 8th Adalynn had to be rushed to the hospital and on December 18th she had to have an RVAD (right ventricular assist device) implanted into her chest to help her weak heart keep beating.

Sadly she suffered from complications after it was implanted and ended up aspirating. This left her without oxygen for almost 25 minutes.

In order to remedy the situation, doctors decided to move Adalynn to an ECMO machine which drains blood and adds oxygen while removing carbon dioxide before warming the blood up and pumping it back into the body.

The little girl's horrible situation resonated with Suha whose daughter had to go through a similar plight.

As she shared the pictures to Facebook, Suha said: "There aren’t any words to describe the pain and love I witnessed. CHD claims so many lives, too many lives. It tears families apart and forces siblings to grow up way too fast. It changes you in every aspect of your life, and to the very core of our heart and soul."

She continued, saying: "I have been in their shoes. This could have very easily been us. I felt Kristi’s unconditional love for Addy and the excruciating pain. It was hard, I could barely hold it together. I left with a piece of my heart missing. I wish no family would ever have to go through this, but it happens, every day."

Whatsmore Suha said: "Although I knew it would be extremely hard to take these images, I knew that these will be their last memories of her captured. I know they will hate and love looking at these images forever."

Her post continued, saying: "I offer all the families I photograph at the hospital to keep the images I take private. I am thankful that Kristi and Justin allowed me to share such intimate moments of their family with the world, to spread so much needed CHD and organ donation awareness."

She concluded by saying: "This is CHD. The pictures are as raw and real as it comes. We need a cure. We need research funding.”

Suha has appealed for research funding on behalf of the project heart foundation.

Adalynn's mom Kristi posted a touching letter to Faceback after they held a memorial for the poor little girl on February 1st. During the memorial, they released balloons into the air in celebration of her life.

In her post, Kristi said: "Yesterday, I said goodbye to my best friend, Addy. She had a beautiful service filled with family, friends, and flowers from people all over the world. I don’t think I can even put into words how that felt, Or how numb, broken and empty I feel now. It all still feels like a horrible nightmare I won’t ever wake up from. The only thing getting me through the day is knowing that she isn’t in any more pain or scared anymore. But I miss her. I miss her voice and her ability to make me smile every time I looked at her. I want to thank everyone for the support and love we’ve received during this time."

Kristi continued, saying: "Addy was so loved by everyone. Along with family and friends, Addy had people show up from our Sew Sassy and Bee and Binx family, Addy would have loved that because she loves her ruffles and bows. We also had three very special nurses come from TN yesterday. These ladies took the best care of my angel and loved her like their own for months and I can’t ever thank them enough for that. They are family to me and Addy loved them all so much."

Adalynn's family has started a fundraiser in her honor using #AddyStrong which they have used to raise over $10,000 for research on ways to cure congenital heart disease.

Facts about Congenital Heart Defects (CHDs) in America:

CHDs affect 1 in 100 babies in the united states. CHDs are the most common birth defects in the world with around 1% of all yearly births in the US being affected and is the leading cause of birth defect-related death and illness.

Children that die because of CHDs are often less than a month old. A study shows that 4.2% of all infant deaths under a month old are caused by CHDs.

Between 1999 and 2006 there were over 42,000 deaths caused by CHDs in the US alone.

CHDs are terrible diseases that need to be researched so that we can find a way to prevent them.
