Brittani and Ian McIntire are already parents to two beautiful daughters. They weren't planning to add to their family, but life had other plans. When this couple found out they were pregnant again, this time with fraternal twins, they were nonetheless overjoyed. The surprise was warmly welcomed, and they began preparing for two more babies: a boy and a girl.
Elation filled their home until one devastating doctor's appointment.
The doctor told them one of their babies, who they'd already named Mason, was not developing properly in the womb. Their boy's life was threatened.
What unfolds next is what I'd undoubtedly call the most touching moment ever captured on a sonogram. Take a look for yourself:
#1 This is Brittani McIntire.
She was told her baby boy Mason wouldn't make it due to a hole in his heart and an abnormal brain. She was obviously heartbroken.
#2 This is her husband, Ian.
Each appointment they went to after, it only got worse. More complications. More concerns. Hope was fading fast.
#3 Doctors told the McIntires their healthy baby girl, Madilyn, already weighed two pounds, whereas Mason was a mere nine ounces.
They would be going home with only one baby when all was said and done. And then something incredible happened. It wouldn't change the fate of this little boy, but it would provide a much needed comfort for mom, dad, and the rest of the family too.
#4 This is the sonogram that began to heal this family's broken heart.
Can you see what's going on? Let's take another look...
#5 Here's the same image, zoomed out for better view. Can you see Madilyn's hand?
She's holding her twin brother's.
#6 The whole family was touched at this sight of protective love and bonding. They knew Mason was in good hands.
Mom says, "Most twins when she's trying to take pictures and stuff, they're kicking each other and hitting each other, and she said with our twins, it just seems like she was very protective over him."
