This Father In Cambodia Decided To Weave A Backpack For His Son To Save Money For Other Essentials

5-year-old NY Keng's father decided to weave a beautiful fully functional backpack out of a raffia string for his son to save the money for other essentials. The pictures shared online by NY's teacher went viral with many of the online users appreciating the dad's love and dedication for his family.

The pictures showed a dad's hard work and love for his son but they were also a reminder for how privileged many of us are to have so many facilities. The kids from poor countries like Cambodia don't have enough money to afford the school supplies and fancy clothes but this creative dad didn't let anything stop him from getting his son the education.

The pictures were shared by 5-year-old NY Keng’s teacher on Facebook who noticed the kid carrying a unique bag. Upon asking, the kid told the teacher Sophos Suon that the bag is woven by his dad out of raffia string. 

NY's dad is a farmer who decided to weave the backpack for him instead of spending the money on a new bag. The father saved the money for other essentials.

The teacher revealed that the bags around their area are available only for 30,000 riels ($7) and many of the kids' parents even struggle to afford this. 

Keng's family can afford the backpack but the father, who is a farmer, decided to utilize the money elsewhere.

The father had the resources to create a fully functional bag for his son, so he decided to be creative and make one.

The post received an overwhelming response, people were impressed by the father's dedication and love for his family. The teacher told that many of the people want to gift the boy the backpack and other school supplies. 

Suon said; “Foreigners asked for contact to send him the bags and my school leader already send his contact for them.” 

The backpack contained everything important from a front flap, and buckle, to two straps for carrying properly. It seems to be of a decent size and strong enough to carry several books.

The raffia material is the perfect choice for the bag as pointed by the users online. The material can be easily cleaned and is waterproof. The users asked the teacher if there could be a link where they can offer support to not only NY but also the other kids from school whose parents might need some help regarding the school supplies.
