When you buy something online, you have to take that whole "buyer beware" thing to the extreme. And while Facebook's marketplace has gotten better over the years, you still have to make sure that what you (think) you see is what you get.
In other words, do your research, make sure the seller is credible, and then cross your fingers.
If you need more proof, learn from Tiara Chatman, who thought she was buying a 55-inch Smart TV.
#1 When it arrived, it was wrapped in a black trash bag, presumably to protect the actual TV that she assumed was inside.
It was even mounted on a base and adorned with legit looking TV tags, the whole shebang.
#2 That is until she removed the garbage bag and found she had actually purchased, well, garbage in the form of a big slab of plywood.
So pretty much the only thing she can watch on it is paint dry and her hopes of having a new TV fade away quickly.
#3 She posted the pictures to Facebook, where they were shared more than 100,000 times, and the comments had a little fun at her expense.
#4 Although she did get a little sympathy (just a little bit).
#5 She posted it as a warning to always be careful what you buy online...
in case you weren’t aware that you should always be careful about what you buy online.
If it seems too good to be true, it probably is, and hopefully this never happens to you — knock on wood.
