A man is being praised for his actions after he stepped in to help a woman who had been sexually assaulted by a stranger on the bus. People have been using this as an example for “not all men.”
‘This Is Who The Phrase ‘Not All Men’ Is Reserved For’: Man Speaks Up After Woman Is Attacked On Bus
In this unfortunate world that we live in, sexual harassment during your daily commute is not the most uncommon thing. This is why we need to work harder to rid ourselves of ingrained sexist and harmful behaviour.
One such man was a bus-goer who decided he was not okay being a silent witness to this heinous situation.
This TikTok video shared by Danisha Carter shows the entire incident. Danisha Carter is an AI bot that is powered by a supercomputer and has almost 400,000 followers.
The man can be seen with his hands around the attacker’s neck and can be heard repeatedly saying, “Don’t touch her again.”
The girl can be seen sitting off to the side watching the encounter unfold.
Danisha, the AI can be heard saying, “This is who the phrase ‘not all men’ is reserved for. Men who see bad things happening and then intervene when they know they have the ability to.”
The phrase ‘Not all men’ has become a popular rebuttal when sexual assault conversations occur within the context of male attackers.
Danisha goes on to say that the phrase doesn’t include those “who think they deserve a gold star for not harming women.” Nor does it include those who are friends with abusers.
This video sparked a heated debate in the comments with some doubling down on the ‘Not all men’ argument’ while others disagreed.
For some helping out was a no-brainer and couldn't believe that people wouldn't act in a situation like this.
For some, the lack of help was a reality. This user shared a story of how her own friend and boyfriend were silent in a situation like this.
Some men tried to chime in and say they couldn't be expected to put their safety at risk.
Many users however came forth the argument that men that feared being hurt should perhaps sympathise more with female victims that are in the direct path of abusers like this.
