A clam that held the world's largest pearl. The fisherman, surviving the storm, brought the enormous pearl to his tattered shack. He considered it a good luck charm and put it under his bed. Sleeping on his good luck every night. And waking on his good luck every morning.

He did this for ten years, until a fire, destroying his home, caused him to bring his good luck out into the world. All 77 lbs of it.

#2 And he found out his good luck was worth an estimated $135 million dollars.

The unidentified fisherman, who found the pearl off the coast of Palawan Island in the Philippines, showed the pearl to a local tourism officer, Aileen Cynthia Amurao.

#3 She was absolutely stunned, especially because he had zero interested in keeping it and he willingly handed it over to authorities.

"He didn't know how much it was worth and kept it tucked away at home as a simple good luck charm.

We were amazed when he brought it to us. We now need help from gemologists to fully certify it. We're waiting for authentication from the Gemologist Institute and other international authorities.

But we believe Puerto Princesca is likely to earn another prestigious title and a record breaker for having the world's biggest natural giant pearl from a giant clam.

We will keep this here in the Philippines and I hope it will bring more tourists to the city."

The current record title holder for the world's largest pearl, The Pearl of Allah, was also found off Palawan, Philippines in 1934. It's on display in NYC at Ripley's Believe It Or Not!

I can't help but wonder why the Fisherman handed it over, or if that tourism officer didn't try to convince him to sell it. Maybe he had already read John Steinbeck's The Pearl and knew that it wouldn't have ended well for him.
