It's no secret that the world treats moms and dads differently. This artist who is also a mother decided to use her skills to show just how these double standards affect her. She gives examples of how her husband is celebrated for small things that she might be vilified for.
This mom and to be fair all moms are kind of done with the double standards that society has pushed onto parents. Mary Catherine Starr of @momlife_comics decided to put into pictures what all of us have been thinking.
The post titled, “An Illustrated Guide To The Double Standards Of Parenting” shows real life examples of how dads are celebrated for the very thing that mothers are ignored or even criticised for.
One of the examples shows how a dad bringing takeout is an example of them being fun whereas a mother is just being too lazy to cook.
A dad pushing a child on the stroller while being on the phone is being attentive and great whereas a mother is being careless.
A dad doing the school run on the way to work is caring and there for his children whereas a mother is someone who is compromising on her duties.

The worst offender is when some mothers are entirely ignored for some tasks because they're considered 'run of the mill'.
She shows how pushing their child on the swing makes the father look like a good dad but the mother simply doing her job.
She ends the post by saying "I hope you learned something".
She went on to clarify that the purpose of her post was not to bash dads but rather to highlight society's double standards and help change them.
"This is not a dig at dads, it's a dig at our society—a society that applauds dads for handling the most basic of parenting duties + expects nothing short of perfection from mothers (or even worse, shames them for every decision and/or move they make!). "
She further added,
"Dad taking his child to her paediatrician appointment? That's so great! What a helpful, wonderful guy!! Mom doing it? Obviously; it’s her job (whether she works or not).
I could have drawn a million examples like these, but I think you get the point.
What scenarios or recent experiences would you add to this list? Obviously, the comments about dad “babysitting" when he's simply taking care of his kids, right? 🙄🙄🙄"
Commenters related to her comments and other moms chimed in with their own experiences.
One commenter stated how dads with crying children are provided help and sympathy while mothers are given bad looks for not doing a good enough job of soothing them.
Another mom stated how her children's school thanked fathers for taking time off work whereas working mothers were not given the same courtesy.
What makes these conversations more jarring is the fact that they are still happening in 2022 and that women still need to make an effort to be seen and heard.
Motherhood is a full time job that needs to be appreciated and valued.
