This Mom’s Ex Doesn’t Pay Her A Cent In Child Support, So She Told The World About His Parenting

Jessica Singleton and Jon Megason both live in Florida. They were once a couple, but their relationship broke down. However, they do share a young son named Pierson. He was born in September 2014.

As many families will know, going through a breakup is difficult. And often, it is the children who find the experience the hardest. As a result, Singleton and Megason did their best to protect Pierson at first.

So following their split, the couple vowed to share their parenting responsibilities fairly. Megason agreed to look after his son each week. He also agreed to help Singleton financially. However, he never agreed to provide state child support.

As the months passed, the former couple found their relationship became strained. “The amount of obstacles we’ve had to overcome to get to this point are tremendous,” Singleton admitted on her Facebook page in March 2017.

It seemed the young mom had got to the point where she had to say something about Megason’s parenting. She simply couldn’t hold her tongue any longer. So she took to her Facebook page to share a few home truths with her friends and family.

“This is a man who doesn’t pay a dime through the state,” Singleton wrote alongside a picture of Megason. However, the rest of the post’s tone wasn’t as might have been expected.

“Because when my son needs new clothes, I just call him,” Singleton went on to reveal. In the emotional post, she pointed out all the things that Megason does for her and her son. And she also pleaded with other separated couples to follow their lead.

“This is a man who buys a bundle of kids’ movies on Vudu, so even I can enjoy them with my son in my own home,” the mom explained. “A man who drops off the $45 box of pull-ups at my front door so I don’t have to load him up and go to the store. One who takes his son in ten minutes notice far often than he should because I have too much to get done or just need a nap.”

Singleton also revealed that although the couple were no longer together, she could still turn to Megason for support. She explained how she always had him as a shoulder to cry on when things got tough. Furthermore, the mom said Megason was still protective of Pierson and her and would often accompany them if they had to go meet with strangers.

She also alluded to Megason’s selfless nature. “This is a man who tells his son not to forget mommy’s boyfriend when he lists his favorite people off the top of his head,” she revealed. “A man who still watches my sister’s kids so our son can be with his cousins.”

And although they no longer live together, Megason can often be found round at Singleton’s home. She explained how he would still complete odd jobs around the house for her. Furthermore, if the mom and Pierson ever got locked out the house, he would be the first one there with the key.

Towards the end of her moving post, Singleton urged other separated parents to do the same and put their differences aside for the sake of their children. “This was not easy, this was a choice,” she wrote. “Stop giving excuses and come together for your children.”

She signed off the Facebook update by addressing Megason directly. “In case I haven’t told you lately, I’m grateful for you,” she wrote. “Most importantly for the motivated individual you are and how you provide Pierson with a phenomenal role model.”

Singleton’s heartwarming tribute to Megason certainly struck a chord with Facebook users. Less than one week after posting her thoughts, the post had been shared more than 130,000 times. Furthermore, around a quarter of a million people have reacted to the post.

Soon, Singleton and Megason were bombarded with well wishes from friends, family and strangers alike. “What an outstanding example you guys are setting for your son,” read one such comment. “I’m so proud and so impressed with the job y’all are doing. This is absolutely phenomenal.”

Following his ex’s touching tribute, Megason took to Facebook to pay Singleton a compliment in return. From one glance at his page, it’s clear to see how much of a doting dad he is. His feed is filled with pictures of Pierson and in his bio he says he’s a “father who loves his son more than life itself.”

“I’m thankful to have a co-parent like Jessica Singleton,” he wrote in March 2017. “The things she does and the hoops she jumps through to make sure our son can spend time with his two favorite people are amazing.”

And while their story has now gone viral, Singleton and Megason have remained unchanged by fame. “Nothing will change over here,” Singleton said on Facebook. “We are all unaffected and still participating all the same. We all agree that this is ideal for us.”

Singleton and Megason have since been praised for setting an example to other separated couples trying to co-parent. But perhaps most importantly, they are the perfect role models for their son. And their dedication to their child goes to show that, if a pair doesn’t make it as a couple, they can still succeed as co-parents.
