David Bowen has created a robotic installation that blends technology and nature. The installation features a plant equipped with a machete for simulated attacks.
This Plant Can Defend Itself Using Its Own “Thoughts” To Control A Giant Machete
People, hold onto your gardening gloves because there is a new member of the plant world that you shouldn't mess with! Meet the "Machete-Wielding Plant," as we like to refer to the Boston fern that is holding a machete.
With his most recent creation, artist David Bowen has elevated our appreciation of both technology and the natural world. This robotic exhibit includes a plant that can move around and make attacks look like they're coming at you with a machete. A plant that attacks? You heard that right.
Now, you might initially be puzzled as to why anyone would produce such a peculiar and disturbing work. But do not worry my fellow gardeners; Bowen has a purpose.
He wishes to draw attention to how humans abuse and manipulate nature. And what better instrument for the task than a plant carrying a weapon?
The specialized software that directs the movements of the plant and the machete, however, should not be overlooked.
It generates a constantly changing performance by analyzing the growth patterns of the plant to decide how the arm should move.
"Reads and uses the electrical noises present in a live philodendron," according to the electrodes attached to the plant.
Because of this, the plant can strike, jab, and slice into the area around it while wielding a machete. at its own desire!
With all the jokes put aside, "Machete" is a thought-provoking work that urges us to consider our connection with nature and the effects of our deeds. Mother Nature cannot be messed with without consequences, can we? Who knows when someone might cut you with a huge machete?
As a result, be cautious around any rogue ferns that may have sharp edges the next time you're in the garden. And keep in mind that even the smallest acts can significantly affect the environment.
