Teenagers (and 20-somethings) are particularly inclined to moronic behavior. The brain isn't fully developed until the age of 26, so we might as well act like idiots until there's no longer a biological justification for it.

A teenager nearly had his hand chopped off after his friends were inspired by a viral video to wake him up by starting a chainsaw.

The prank was supposed to go down much like the one in this video, which went viral in 2015.

The victim had been celebrating the Christmas holidays with four friends aged between 15 and 22 in the town of Wickede in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

The teenager fell asleep on the sofa, and in the early hours of the morning, one of his friends decided to play a joke by bringing a chainsaw into the house to re-enact a viral video they had seen on the internet.

The victim of the prank, understandably, flew into a panic and tried to push the blade away, seriously injuring his left hand.

"The 22-year-old told us that he was sure he had switched on the chain brake. But the chain had turned," Police spokesman Wolfgang Lueckenkemper told Daily Mail.

The victim was taken to the hospital and given immediate medical attention and his four "friends" were treated for shock.

Police spokesman Wolfgang Lueckenkemper said: '[The victim] was so frightened that he tried to push the blade away, and was badly injured in his left hand.

After being treated for "shock," the perpetrators can look forward to some serious consequences.

The mastermind behind this idiocy may face charges of inflicting dangerous bodily injury. However, he won't be receiving any drunk and disorderly conduct citations, because, somehow, he was stone cold sober during the ridiculous event.

So, here's a reminder for any impulsive teenagers considering chainsaw pranks: remove the chain. Or, better yet, skip it altogether.
