A young Chinese couple has been charged in China for trying to sell their newborn baby to complete strangers for £6,800 to buy crystal meth to get high. The parents met another couple through an online chatting platform an decided to sell their child to that couple who had trouble conceiving.

#2 The couple already has a history of drug abuse.

The police had been looking for the couple for quite some time as they already had a history of drug abuse and were caught the next day in hotel room with stacks of cash and meth bottles.

#3 The couple is a long time drug addict and was buried in debts.

As reported by Chinese news outlet Sina, the couple originates from Neijiang and was arrested by the police for the charge of child trafficking. The couple's baby has been rescued by the police and is safe with his grandparents.

According to the report, the couple, Mr. Wang and Ms. Zhong was a long-time drug addict and buried in debts.

#4 Her sentence was reduced after she gave birth to her child.

Ms. Zhong was pregnant at the beginning of last year and even used meth multiple times during her pregnancy. The couple eventually decided even when their son was not born that they would sell him off to pay their overdue debts.

Through a popular chatting platform QQ, Ms. Zhong got introduced to a woman named Ms. Lan in Februaury last year.

Ms. Zhong has already been arrested for various reasons including providing venues for drug users, robbery and child trafficking. But in 2018, she gave birth to her second child and her sentences were executed outside the jail. She got 'let go' by her prison's manager in June, 2018.

#5 They were already under police surveillance for suspicious activities.

Upon meeting Ms. Lan she told the woman that she cannot afford to bring up her second child and was looking for a family who will look after her baby after he is born. The two ladies agreed upon 60,000 yuan (£6,800) 'nutrition fees' to give it to the meth-addicted couple who would hand over the child as soon as he is born.

As promised Ms. Zhong gave birth on October 11 and soon after the birth Ms. Wang took the child from the hospital and left in a hurry. But little did the couple know that they were already under surveillance by police for their already long history of drug abuse.

#6 They were caught by the police in a hotel room.

The police were already suspicious of the couple's actions and the next day they traced the child at Ms. Lan and Mr. Chen's house who later confessed to their agreement with the drug addict couple. Police officers later caught Mr Wang and Ms Zhong in a hotel room.

Footage related shows the police arresting the couple with meth bottles and stacks of cash around them. The couple admitted that they had bought a batch of crystal meth and two brand-new mobile phones with the profit from selling their son.

They also admitted that they finished using the drug just before police reached to them.

The drug-addict parents were found guilty of child trafficking on May 29 by the Shizhong District People's Court of Neijiang.

Mr. Wang has received a sentence of 5 years while Ms. Zhng has received a sentence of 6 years. The court also said Ms. Zhong would be imprisoned for a combined 13 years due to 'unfinished prison terms from previous crimes'.
