According to new U.S. Census estimates released Wednesday, Utah is the third-fastest growing state in the nation.
Utah Has The Nation’s Third Fastest Growth Rate.
#1
Utah's population increased by 1.9 percent from July 1, 2016, to July 1, 2017, adding approximately 57,512 persons. The fastest growing state was Idaho, followed by Nevada.
#2
The reason: a continuation of its high birth-rate and big-family culture. The census found most of Utah's growth came from "natural increase," meaning that births outpaced deaths. But at least one expert is skeptical about that data.
#3
The state ranked No. 1 for its population rate just last year, increasing then by 2.03 percent. In fact, Utah has been in the top 10 for its growth rate every year so far this decade.
#4
The census highlights people moving in from other states as another major player in Utah's population growth. With the state boasting a healthy economy, people from across the country have moved to Utah in seek of jobs.
#5
The new estimates say that 83.2 of every 1,000 Utah women ages 15 to 50 gave birth in 2006. The national average was 54.9. So Utah's rate was 52 percent higher.
#6
The Census figures that 20 percent of women ages 40 to 44 were childless in 2006, or twice as high as the level 30 years earlier.
#7
Utah also essentially earned gold medals for the lowest percentage of those giving birth who were unmarried, the lowest percentage who were in the work force, and the lowest percentage of births to mothers who receive cash public assistance.
