A woman reached out to people in the AITA community on Reddit to find out if she was wrong to not be there for her husband when he really wanted her at his promotion dinner, just because she didn't like anything on the menu. Reddit users slammed her in the comments.
Wife Doesn't Attend Her Husband's Promotion Dinner All Because Of Her Picky Eating
People say the marriage vows of loving and cherishing their partner on their wedding day but seem to forget it when life becomes mundane. Or maybe it's just selfishness and entitlement that stop them from cherishing their partners and celebrate their wins.
A Redditor Willing_Strawberries asked the AITA community in a post, that amassed 12.3k comments and 23.8k upvotes, if she's a jerk for not attending her husband's celebration dinner because she didn't like anything on the menu.
She starts by telling how hard her husband worked to get his promotion and how proud she is of him. His parents wanted to celebrate it at his favorite steak restaurant but OP doesn't like steak. And the restaurant has a limited menu.
She didn't like anything on the menu, so she asked her husband to pick another restaurant but her husband insisted as he loves prime rib.
The husband tried to be accommodating and gave her a few options but she opted to just not go because she wouldn't have a "good time".
Her husband tried his best to convince her to join them but she stayed stubborn and he had to leave without her. But he returned an hour later with to go boxes as he didn't know how to explain the situation to his kids.
Obviously, his celebration was ruined because OP couldn't get over her picky eating for one day just for the sake of her husband's happiness. But instead she blamed him for not picking the right restaurant. Now she asks Reddit users if she's an a*****e?
Clearly, anyone with a bit of common sense knows the answer to this question.
Most of the Reddit users slammed the author in the comments, calling her selfish and a poor partner. She has made it clear to her family that her food preference is more important than their feelings. And she also embarrassed her husband by putting him in an awkward situation.
One user highlighted that OP says she eats steak rarely, so it should've been one of those rare times.
Another was amazed at how OP didn't want to bother the staff by making changes in her order but would gladly ruin her husband's special night.
One user couldn't imagine how OP couldn't sacrifice some of her comfort to celebrate her husband's achievement. She could settle for anything, a drink, a dessert or a sald just to be there for him.
Another called her an a*****e twice for making it all about her.
So the author seemed to have got a reality check and admitted she was wrong later in the update. All the bashing made her realize her mistake and she updated that she apologized to him and trying to make up to him by buying him some camping gear.
Marriage is a life-long commitment of love and sacrifice for your better half and to be there for them, for better or for worse. Glad OP got that reminder.
