Every dog owner is well aware of their furry friend's love for meat, yet that didn’t deter a woman from claiming her dog preferred a vegetarian diet.

It’s a well-known fact that dogs aren’t particularly fussy eaters and will happily chomp down on just about anything you place in front of them.

This is precisely why keeping an eye on your dog's diet is crucial for their health.

Lucy Carrington was deeply moved by her dog's changing appetite and decided to take action.

She chose to transition her beloved Husky, Storm, to a vegetarian diet, noticing that Storm had grown less interested in her regular food during the notably warm summer months in the UK in 2018.

Lucy began feeding Storm leftover vegetables and meat-free dog food in an attempt to spice up her diet.

Lucy then took her experiment a step further by appearing on ITV’s "This Morning" in August that year to publicly test Storm's commitment to her new vegetarian diet.

The hosts, Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes, introduced two bowls of food live on the UK daytime show—one filled with meat and the other with vegetables—to see which one Storm would choose.

Predictably, Storm didn’t hesitate to dive into the meat, completely ignoring the vegetables after giving them a brief sniff.

This choice demonstrated Storm's natural inclination towards meat over greens, despite Lucy's hopes for her vegetarian diet.

Reacting to Storm's unmistakable preference, Lucy couldn't hide her surprise, exclaiming, "Oh you little... I didn't swear."

"In fairness, the weather has cooled down quite dramatically," attempting to rationalize why Storm might have reverted to meat.

Eamonn Holmes pointed out, "You say dogs can't make the choice, but on this program, they can make the choice," highlighting the clear preference Storm showed given the option.

This intriguing moment on "This Morning" sparked a broader discussion on the show about the feasibility of dogs adopting a vegetarian lifestyle.

Vet Scott Miller, a familiar face on "This Morning," provided insight into the dietary habits of dogs.

He explained that dogs are omnivores by nature, which means their diet can include both meat and plant-based foods. According to Miller, this omnivorous nature theoretically allows dogs to follow a vegetarian diet.

Despite Lucy’s claim and experiment, the British Veterinary Association advises against placing dogs on a vegetarian or vegan diet due to the challenges in ensuring a balanced intake of essential nutrients.

"It is much easier to get the balance of essential nutrients wrong than to get it right."

Social media users found the whole episode quite entertaining, with one viewer commenting on X (formerly known as Twitter), "I am roaring at Storm the 'vegetarian' dog eating all the meat."

In the end, Lucy conceded on the show that she would be reverting to feeding Storm meat again, saying, "If this is what she wants then obviously I'm going to adapt accordingly," acknowledging her dog’s clear preference for a meat-based diet.
