This story of a woman that pushes the boundaries of entitlement is as shocking as it is ridiculous. After spending her own inheritance on luxury items, this woman decided to ask her younger sister for her share to pay for her husband’s medical care.

Posted in the AITA subreddit on Reddit, an 18-year-old posted to ask if she had made the right decision by declining to pay for her older sisters’ husbands medical bills.

While on the surface level it sounded like she was denying a life-saving opportunity to the man, the context she provided made the situation a little more complicated.

When OP and her sister lost their dad, they both received an inheritance. The older sister in the year since then had used the money to renovate the house and buy luxury cars.

OP on the other hand, held on to hers to pay for college and stayed with an aunt because her brother in law (BIL) had refused to take her in.

OP and BIL’s relationship had always been rocky.

“My sister & I haven't been close, it started after she got married to her chronically ill husband who was allowed to make backhanded comments about dad and mock his illness and make a scene at his funeral. only because he's ill and shouldn't be held accountable for his behavior. I've distanced myself But my sister kept visiting a lot lately venting about my brother inlaws condition. He's been in & out the hospital for heart problems and in need for a surgery.”

As his situation worsened, her sister started hinting at OP’s inheritance. When OP said no, the situation went as most situations with ‘Karens’ go.

“I refused to help and she had a melt down at my aunt's house calling me heartless, cruel with no empathy. She said that her husband's health should be a priority and I needed to help because education is nothing compared to someone's health and asked if I'd be happy to see her as a widow and my nephew with no father.”

Turns out, their behaviour had caused other family members to cut them off as well, so they couldn't really ask others for help either.

OP was feeling guilty and conflicted but one friend of theirs had a good head on their shoulders and gave them this piece of advice.

“I asked my friend and he said let them sell the cars and all the luxurious stuff they bought to afford the surgery and warned me if I give them money I'll never get it back and may not be able to go to medical school.”

There was no surprise that everyone in the comments agreed with that statement.

Another pointed out that they still had other ways to pay and options to consider and that OP should not have to sacrifice their future.

While others noted that the sister's behaviour was incredibly manipulative.
