Woman Lost Her Leg After Getting A Blister From Dancing In Her High Heels
#1 She Bought A New Pair Of 5-Inch Heels For Christmas Party
Lorraine Burnett, 37, had bought the five inch heels especially for the pub crawl in 2008, and wore them all night dancing even though they were pinching. She ended up dancing the night away until 2 a.m. However, her decision to wear the shoes would have a lasting impact on her life.
#2 After Getting Home She Noticed A Painful Blister On Her Left Leg
After spending all night wearing the uncomfortable footwear on the dancefloor, Burnett developed a painful blister on her left foot.

Lorraine works in medicine as an assistant caregiver. So she just cleaned and dressed the blister, not thinking much about it.
Despite repeated treatment with antibiotics, the infection wouldn't heal. Lorraine suffered from continuous infections to the left leg for two more years.

She was so affected by the blister that she even had to cut down her hours at work and became less mobile.
Two years on, doctors broke the shocking news that her lower limb would need to be amputated.
You may be wondering why a blister could turn into such a persistent and horrible infection? Lorraine suffers from type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes causes poor circulation, especially to the extremities, which is why her leg kept getting infected. Diabetes also a host of skin issues, including diabetic blisters.
#5 Lorraine Is In Need Of A New Prosthetic
Sometime after the surgery, Lorraine's kidneys began to fail. This was caused by a combination of stress due to the major life change and her diabetes diagnoses. She was then placed on dialysis.
Lorraine's prosthetic is a constant burden. She suffers from painful ulcers on her stump due to the artificial leg. In 2014, Lorraine had to even be put in an induced coma because of an infection on her stump.
Lorraine's stump is also susceptible to infections; the mother-of-one says she can't believe just how much her life has changed
#6 You Can Help Lorraine Get A New Leg
Speaking about her experience for the first time, Lorraine says all she wants for Christmas is a new leg to replace the standard prosthetic issued by the NHS.
She's fundraising for one which looks more realistic, so she can feel ‘like a lady' again.
‘A new leg would mean a new life for me,' she said. ‘It breaks my heart to think my five inch heels cost me my leg.'
Lorraine is raising money for her new leg via her Go Fund Me page.
