A woman talked about how shocked she was to find out that her fiancé was leading a double life up to his untimely death on their wedding day.

The soon-to-be bride Kaitlin was taken aback in August 2020 when she found out her fiancé Eric had died at the age of 33 from cardiac arrest.

On November 20, 2023, the day Eric would have turned 37, Kaitlin found out his secret: he had been having an affair for over a year prior to his death.

The truth about Eric's second girlfriend emerged when Kaitlin noticed an odd Instagram post that was dedicated to Eric.

The woman lived on the West Coast, far from their New York city.

After deciding to get in touch with the woman who had left the birthday message, Kaitlin initially assumed it might be a coincidence.

She was astonished to discover that the woman had been dating Eric since March 2019.

The unidentified woman offered screenshots as evidence of her relationship with Kaitlin's fiancé.

She recalled: “The last texts they shared were disgusting, sexual messages. Eric sent them to her seven days before our wedding.”

Since Kaitlin had already lost another boyfriend, Mike, to an unusual accident in 2015, the blow to her reality was much more devastating.

Sharing her loss with Eric, Kaitlin said he was 'amazing' at helping her work through her feelings, but now she's been taken aback by what she calls the 'pathological, narcissistic conduct' concealed beneath his gentle appearance.

“The audacity to put somebody who loved you through this, to stand in front of my 77-year-old parents and ask for their permission to marry me,” Kaitlin said.

“This [ordeal] has aged them, and they didn’t deserve that.”

Since moving back in with her parents after Eric's passing, Kaitlin has relied on them for support as she navigates mental health challenges, such as PTSD.

“I’ve lost everything,” she said. “It’s his fault. I have every right to be as angry as I feel.”

Although Kaitlin claimed that the experience had "really screwed with" her brain, she has been seeing a therapist in an effort to make sense of what she has gone through.

“I wonder if he even loved me. Did he just want the stability and facade of marriage with me? Because what he did wasn’t love.”

Despite the unusual nature of her situation, Kaitlin is aware that she is not alone in being taken aback by a partner's behavior, even in the aftermath of their passing.

“Sadly, a lot of people go through this,” she said. “You’re allowed to be angry and hurt."

"Don’t feel like you have to automatically forgive someone because they died.”
