Woman Who Married Her Mother After They 'Hit It Off' Pleads Guilty To Incest

Misty Spann, 26, was raised by her grandmother after her 44-year-old mother Patricia Spann lost custody of her three children. The pair reunited in 2014 and began an incestuous relationship. They married in March 2016 in Comanche County, Oklahoma.

Patricia genuinely thought she wasn't doing anything wrong because she wasn't legally Misty's mom and had been removed from her daughter's birth certificate. Under Oklahoma law, it's illegal to marry a close relative even if the relationship isn't sexual.

She used a fake name to fill out the marriage license application - Patricia Ann Clayton. "Misty and Patricia told me they got married to basically defraud the state in order to receive more benefits under health care".

This was not the first marriage for Patricia. She also was married to her biological son in 2008 in Comanche County, according to Tulsa World. The marriage was annulled 15 months later after the son said it was incestuous.

Misty was given a 10-year suspended jail sentence after admitting incest at Stephens County Court this week, reported Tulsa World.

Patricia wrote a book about the lust she felt for the adult son she had given up for adoption 26 years earlier. She also was charged with incest in the case and is scheduled to appear in court in January.

New Jersey and Rhode Island are the only two states in the US where incest between consenting adults is not a criminal offense, however, the two people still cannot get married.
