Fátima E.Y, 19, was traveling from Morocco to Ceuta, a Spanish territory when border patrol agents noticed her acting anxiously. "The operator noticed something strange, which seemed to be a person inside the case," a Civil Guard spokesman told Spanish newspaper, El Pais.
X-Ray Machine Finds 8-Year-Old Boy Hidden In Woman’s Suitcase
Nobody likes going through airport security.
However, those X-ray machines aren't just for show; every once in a while, they find something really important.
A recent story from Spain provides an excellent example.
A 19-year-old woman was stopped by security after something bizarre showed up on their X-ray screens.
This is what the airport security crew caught.
It's clearly a young child, contorted to fit into the woman's hot pink suitcase. So, what was going on here?
The woman was traveling from Morocco to Ceuta.
Ceuta is a Spain-governed territory in Africa. The woman was apparently trying to bring the boy to his family in Spain; his father had recently applied for family reunification.
However, his request was denied.
He allegedly asked the 19-year-old to smuggle the boy into the country. However, their plan was thwarted by the security crew.
The 19-year-old was quickly arrested.
Several hours later, the boy's father was also arrested.
Currently, the boy is in child protective services.
It's not clear whether he'll be allowed to reunite with his family, but he was clearly endangered by the smuggling attempt.
