The beauty vlogger did the photoshoot - which involved him wearing a prosthetic baby bump - as part of a video where he attempted to live the life of a pregnant person for 24 hours straight to see whether he was strong enough.

Global lockdowns and stay-at-home orders inspired all of us to do something out of the ordinary, but when the majority of us were playing toilet roll games and attempting to hit our step count in the living room, Charles appeared to be pregnant.

Charles shared a photo of himself standing nude this week on social media, with one hand cradling a baby bump. He wrote 'Surprise... new video out now' alongside the picture.

As it turned out, the image promoted his latest video titled '24 hours being pregnant' in which he underwent a series of challenges and assignments to see if he was 'strong enough to experience what it truly is like being pregnant for 24 hours straight.'

In addition to sparking a lot of uncertainty, Charles' posts attracted criticism for his decision to feign pregnancy and for obviously failing to understand so many individuals struggle to get pregnant throughout their lives.

Twitter users expressed their disapproval of the video, with one person responding, ‘I’m sorry but James Charles and his team filmed that sh*t, made those comments and didn’t see anything wrong with it? How thirsty for clout can you be?! So gross, disrespectful and insensitive. Also, I’m sure he’s at an age where he knows that pregnancy jokes aren’t ok.’

Another social media user commented ‘im 34 weeks rn & don’t even fw you..not gonna upset me & watch this train wreck either. just came to say I highly doubt you were able to even find a touch of how it feels to be pregnant. messy & deadass nobody asked for this [sic].’

Charles does not seem to have reacted directly to the uproar yet, but he seemed to expect certain kinds of reactions when he clarified in his video that the stunt was not done to ‘make fun of or make light of pregnancies and the sensitivities and the complications that come around it’.

Charles noted after uploading the video that on Twitter,' James Charles pregnant' was trending.
