Zac Efron Hopes For a “High School Musical” Reboot With The Original Cast

Zac Efron expressed his interest in filming the fourth movie in the High School Musical series during an interview with E! News released on Tuesday.

The 34-year-old performer noted that he would be more than happy to return to the Disney Channel series, in which he starred for several installments.

Zac Efron has left High School Musical fans excited after revealing he'd love to reprise his role as Troy Bolton. And, if the chance arises, join the rest of the original cast in a relaunch.

A message added in the post's caption read: 'Time to start brainstorming the plot for HSM 4.'

When asked if he would be interested in returning to the franchise, Efron stated that he would be delighted to rejoin his co-stars.

'Of course. Seriously, having the opportunity in any form to go back and work with that team would be so amazing,' he said.

The Firestarter actor expressed that he would jump at the chance to revive the hit franchise.

'Yeah, my heart's still there, so that would be incredible; I hope it happens,' he said.

Several franchise fans spoke enthusiastically about the possibility of a fourth film in the series in the video's comments section.

Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, and Corbin Bleu were among the other cast members.

The majority of the actors from the original film returned for the sequels, which debuted in 2007 and 2008.

Except for Efron, several cast members took part in a concert tour called High School Musical: The Concert, which lasted from late 2006 to mid-2007.

High School Musical 3: Senior Year, the third film in the series, was released in theaters and made more than $250 million.

Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure, a spinoff film focusing on Tisdale's character, was released in 2011.

The fourth film in the franchise was in the works in 2016, but development appears to have paused.

High School Musical was adapted into several international versions for nations like Mexico, Brazil, and China.

A pilot for a prospective spinoff series called Madison High was shot, but it was never taken up.

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, starring Olivia Rodrigo and Joshua Bassett, began on the Disney Channel in 2019 and ran for two seasons.

In 2008, a reality show called High School Musical: Get in the Picture aired for one season.

Numerous novels and video games based on the property have also been published.
