Cohen also states that she wanted to speak up but was told by her boyfriend that she was an equal participant of this act and that if she made any claims, Ed will have people come after her and will destroy her and that she could forget about her acting career. Saying there's no way I can go around saying Ed 'raped' me and that I don't want to be 'that girl
According to Cohen, it took a lot of courage to speak up about the incident which happened 3 years ago, but in the wake of Weinstein scandal, she wanted to take a stand and decided to revisit that painful memory.

She wrote, "My mom was dying of cancer and I didn't have the support system or time to process and deal with the aftermath of the rape. I buried my pain and guilt to make space for the onslaught that came after my mom's death, just three months later. Even now, I grapple with feelings of guilt. Unfounded worry that in some way I was to blame. I don't know where these feelings come from. I've grown considerably in the three years since my assault, so to revisit is painful."
