"Shake It Off!" Taylor Swift Being Sued For Stealing Lyrics

We don't believe it... Everybody is familiar with the mega hit "Shake It Off" and it's bouncy lyrics. Did Taylor rip them off? Or is somebody out to make a killing on her popularity?

The 25-year-old singer is being sued for $42 million for allegedly stealing the lyrics to her 2014 single, "Shake It Off." The hit song inspired us all to ignore the haters, live our best lives, and accept the fact that we probably can't dance.

#3 Hate, Hate, Hate...

But now Taylor is being sued for $42 million over one of the song's most recognizable lyrics. R&B singer Jesse Graham claims Taylor stole the lyrics from his 2013 song "Haters Gone Hate" and wants his name added to her track as a writer. He alleges that he has ownership of the phrases "haters gone hate" and "playas gone play."

#4 There Would Be No Shaking

"Her hook is the same as mine," Graham told the New York Daily News. "If I didn't write the song ‘Haters Gone Hate,' there wouldn't be a song called ‘Shake It Off' At first I was going to let it go, but this song is my song all the way."

#5 Why Wait Over A Year?

"Shake it Off" is, of course, lifted from Swift's all-conquering 1989 which has just celebrated its first anniversary. The song debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 1, where it stayed for four weeks. "Shake it Off" also went on to collect top streaming song (video) honors at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards.

#6 Graham Thinks He Has A Strong Case

Putting to the side the lyrical likeness in the chorus, the two songs share little else in common. Braham, however, is firm in his belief that he has a strong case.

Graham is also suing CNN for the title of its morning show New Day," because he runs a church called New Day Worldwide.
