A 65 year old woman who is an anti-masker refused to put on a mask, only to be handcuffed and pinned to the ground by the police. Bodycam footage shows her being asked to leave before the officer forces her to the ground.
A Texas police officer handcuffed a 65-year-old woman when she refused to wear a mask in a Texas bank.
The Bodycam footage shows the officer pinning the woman to the ground after a lengthy argument.
The officer had approached Ms. Wright after she refused to comply with the requests of the staff.
The incident occurred one day after Governor Greg Abbott announced that masks were no longer mandatory in public spaces.
The video shows the two arguing over whether the bank constitutes a public space. Businesses however, decide their own mask rules.
Ms. Wright who was escorted out but not detained has been issued with an arrest warrant as a result of the incident. She was also sent to the hospital to check whether any injuries resulted from the altercation.
Ms. Wright can be heard asking the police officer, “What are you going to do, arrest me?"
When the police officer began to handcuff Ms. Wright, she can be heard screaming to the other customers,” 'Police brutality right here people.” Customers can be heard saying ‘no’ in the background.
The Bank’s spokesperson stated, 'The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other medical experts continue to reinforce the importance of using face coverings and practising physical distancing in all public spaces.' She also stated that those who weren’t willing to wear masks had the option of using the bank’s ATMs and drive-through services.
Ms. Wright told the press that she had been attacked and that asking her to wear a mask was akin to being in Nazi Germany.
