#1 Douse your hair in dry shampoo.

Dirty hair looks bad because of oil, not dirt. Dry shampoo is designed to soak up oil, leaving hair looking clean and smelling fresh--all without any water!

#2 (Or baby powder).

Don't have any dry shampoo on hand? In a pinch, baby powder is an easy substitute. Sprinkle a light dusting of powder on your hair and comb it in through to your roots. Keep combing until it doesn't look like a 17th century powdered wig.

#3 Take a European shower.

If you're smelling a little ripe but can't get to a shower, grab a washcloth (or paper towel) and some body wash (I've also heard hand sanitizer works) and attack those pits. It's like hitting reset on your B.O.

#4 Apply (and re-apply) deodorant.

Once your pits are clear of bacteria and sweat, hit 'em with a healthy layer of deodorant. Even if your hair looks dirty and you're in yesterday's clothes, people will be able to stand next to you without fainting.

#5 Freshen your face.

A dirty face can drag down your entire appearance, and even make you feel tired. If you can't wash it like normal, swab your entire face with a cotton ball doused in toner. You can also invest in some antiperspirant facial gel (yup that's a thing) that reduces shininess from sweat and oil.

#6 Dust thyself with talcum powder.

This is especially handy after a workout: Applying a thin coating of talcum powder in your important crevices leaves a soft, silky texture, while helping to absorb any leftover sweat or wetness. It also smells good.

#7 Bring on the braids.

The biggest enemy of day-old hair is dirty and oil, and touching your hair too much imparts both of these things. Getting it away from your face with a braid or two is an easy way to switch up your style while also preserving your hair's shelf life.

#8 Fight the frizz with dryer sheets.

If your hair gets frizzy when dirty, wipe a dryer sheet over it. They'll impart a thin layer of wax that will wrangle your fly-aways along with a fresh scent! (Don't want the scent, check out these anti-static sheets made especially for your lovely locks).

#9 Sneak in a soft headband.

The dirtiest hairs are always the ones closest to your scalp because that's where the oil comes from. Wearing a soft headband close to your forehead adds a sporty flair while also covering up the oil slick that is now your head.

#10 Battle back with bobby pins.

Bobby pins are my secret weapon when it comes to salvaging unshowered hair. Sweep bangs to the side and pin, or gather the entire mop in a sleek bun. You'll go from hitchhiker to ballerina in five minutes or less.

#11 When all else fails, put a hat on it.

The only downside to this age old trick is that you won't be able to take it off.
