Introduction
Memes memes memes. For the most part, that's all Facebook comments are these days. Sort of the bane of our lives.
But some are good. Sort of.
A lot of them are really old now so we need a look at the new ones. The ones from 2015. "What are the best memes of 2015?"
#1 Hotline bling
Remember when Hotline Bling exploded onto the scene way back in October? We do, we've not been allowed to forget. His dance moves are what resonate and people have been taking full advantage of the blank canvas ever since
#2 The dress
On the 26th of February, BuzzFeed published an article titled, "What Colors Are This Dress?" Simple enough, right? And then the internet died.
Okay not really, it's still here but seriously, it was HUUUUGGGEE!!!!
#3 Nick Young
Nick Young is an NBA shooting guard. That's it. Well he seems like a nice bloke too but that's not the point. When starring in a short doc called "A day in the life of Nick Young", for a single frame, he looked a bit confused. People loved it!
#4 Deez Nuts
A guy was making a prank phone call and he said "Something came in the mail today deez nuts!" he then laughs uncontrollably at his own gag, exclaiming "got him!". That's been viewed over 24 million times and inadvertently became a 2016 presidential candidate.
#5 Charlie Charlie
"Charlie, Charlie, can we play?" is what you say after you set up one of those things in the above picture. Then you summon a Mexican spirit. Everyone was at it at one point until it turned out it was all a marketing ploy for a film (that we won't name on principle!!!!!)
#6 Hello…
Some singer called Adele or something had a song where she was on a phone. The song did quite well, as it happens people liked the idea of making people from films talk to each other on the phone so they did.
#7 Pepe (rare pepe)
So Pepe was more of a 2014 kind of affair, we know, but rare Pepe's a relatively new (in the grand scheme of things). The general idea is to take Pepe, photoshop him and then act as if he's super-valuable. People have even gone as far to watermark theirs so they don't get stolen.
#8 Raptor Taming
Chris Pratt taming raptors. Cool. Well strange and unlikely (this is excusing the fact that dinosaurs can't happen now). So what happened? Zookeepers and the like decided that they deserved a bit of Pratt-ness.
#9 Pizza Rat
The people's hero. Loving the right food and looking after himself, pizza rat symbolizes every person out there.
A bit two-dimensional but a lot of TMNT references
#10 Left Shark
When Katy Perry performed at the Superbowl XLIX halftime show, she had a really weird set. Best thing about the set was the shark on the left though, he didn't know any of the moves and had a really sorrowful look on his face.
#11 What are thooooooooossee?!
It all started when a guy filmed himself asking a police officer what his shoes are all about, saying "What are those?" but dragging out the those bit for comic effect. It worked. It's funny, okay?!
#12 Trump Hair
Does this need explaining? Just look at his stupid hair!
#13 Straight Outta…
To promote the NWA film, a site was set up where people could make their own straight outta Compton logo. And they did.
#14 [Something] and chill
Come round and I'll put Netflix on and then we'll ignore it and have some sex. That's the general gist. Netflix even had their headquarters vandalized with the unofficial slogan. And it's not just Netflix that makes people horny, apparently!
#15 JOOOOHHN CENAAAA
These days everybody sees it coming but that's not the point. John Cena has revolutionized video memes and for that we will always love him (as well as all of his charity work).
