People are always talking about the runs that Christina Aguilera can sing or the emotion that Adele portrays through her voice. But what about Mariah Carey?! She's been slaying the music charts since she started back in the 1990s. Since then, Mariah has put out consistently amazing albums, won a ton of Grammys, and has had singles go to the top of the charts. Everybody can name at least one Mariah song, but not many people know about her personal life! So here's what you need to know about the songstress whose new reality TV show is out now!

1. When Mariah was just two years old, she shocked her mom by imitating her singing opera.

Her mom couldn't believe it and put her into singing lessons two years later!

2. Apparently, her nickname in high school was "Mirage" because she would cut class so often.

3. Her mom named her after the song, "They Call the Wind Mariah" from the musical Paint Your Wagon.

4. Before she made it big, Mariah started off as a backup singer for Brenda K. Starr.

5. She decided to have her legs insured for one billion dollars after her contract with Gillette's "Legs of a Goddess" campaign back in 2006.

6. Mariah sang one of the highest notes ever sung by a human when she sang "Emotions" at the 1991 MTV Music Video Awards.
