2. Richard Gere loses a crown in his tooth

While his character is firing Stuckey, Richard Gere actually has bigger things on his mind… Well, in his mouth anyway. It turns out that while filming this scene, he lost a crown from his tooth. You can see that he rolls his tongue around his mouth to check.

4. The condoms change color

Here’s another oh-so-romantic moment. When Julia offers Richard a condom, there’s something weird about them. One minute they are all in the same order… The next, they change places. She must’ve been shuffling them while we weren’t looking.

5. The sex noises were totally fake!

What would you say if we told you that the sex noises Julia was making were totally fake? Well, duh, she is an actress, but that’s not exactly what we mean. During the piano scene, the sound of the keys was just too loud, and you couldn’t actually hear the sex noises, so the producers had to dub them over the scene later.

6. The director was always tickling Julia’s feet

For an actor, getting a realistic sounding laugh bang on can be difficult. When Julia couldn’t do it, the director had a fantastic way of capturing the real thing. Before shooting the scene he tickled her feet so that she would already be in fits of laughter. Cheeky!

7. Julia avoids sitting on chairs for the whole movie

The director suggested that Vivian should sit on nontraditional surfaces rather than chairs. This suited her general attitude and bohemian lifestyle. Bet you never noticed that one, eh?

8. The pair go to see La Traviata

When the couple go to an opera show, it’s worth noting that it’s La Traviata. For those of you who don’t know, the plot of the opera is VERY similar to Pretty Woman. The story tells of a Parisian Courtesan who falls in love with an older, wealthy man. Sound familiar?

9. Julia panicked before the sex scene

We can’t imagine how very awkward it is to do a Hollywood sex scene. When Julia was building herself up to the scene, she had one little problem. She was so nervous that a vein started to protrude from her head. It actually had to be massaged down before they began shooting!

10. Richard Gere’s hair in the film poster

Throughout the entire movie, Richard Gere has gray hair… but that’s not how he looked on the poster. For some bizarre reason, his hair is completely brown on the main movie poster. Weird or what?

11. The director makes a small cameo in the movie

When Richard Gere’s character asks a homeless man for directions, you might want to take a second look at the guy’s face. It is actually the film’s director, Gary Marshall.

12. The taps in the bathtub move!

When the couple share a bath, one of the most memorable moments is when Julia turns the tap on with her foot, right? But when the camera angle flips and we see their heads, it looks like the tap is behind them. How on earth did she do that?

13. Richard Gere is a fantastic pianist

Remember the piano scene? Well, not only was Richard REALLY playing the piano, but he actually composed the piece for the movie as well. We never knew that. How can one guy be so very talented, eh?

When you think of the movie Pretty Woman, what scene springs to mind? We’re willing to bet it’s the iconic necklace scene… You know, when Julia starts laughing manically. It might surprise you to learn that this scene was NOT in the original script. In fact, Richard Gere just thought it would be hilarious to shut the necklace box on her. The director liked it so much that he kept it in the final cut. Nice.

16. That is NOT Julia’s real body on the poster

When the movie first came out, THIS poster was just about everywhere. All the men got totally excited, thinking they’d caught a glimpse of Julia Robert’s hot body. Sadly, they were mistaken. For that photo, they actually used a body double – a lady called Shelley Michelle.
