While Tim Burton is widely known as a brilliant director, he actually started off studying character animation in college.

Getting a degree in character animation was totally worth it. Burton ended up landing an animator's apprenticeship at the Walt Disney Animation Studio.

Most of Burton's movies are based on drawings that he made when he was just a kid. Edward Scissorhands and Jack Skellington are characters that he drew when he was younger.

Also, his character Franenweenie is based on his childhood pet. He really is one of the cutest characters that Burton has come up with.

Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas is one of Burton's favorite characters that he created. If you look close, other versions of Jack can be found making cameos in other Tim Burton movies.

Tim Burton even directed Planet of the Apes despite his massive fear of chimpanzees. He has been quoted as saying, "You don't know whether chimps are going to kill you or kiss you. They're very open on some levels and much more evil in a certain way."

Before he made feature-length movies, he also made a couple of short films: Vincent and Frankenweenie. Burton was actually fired by Disney after because they thought it was too dark and scary for kids.
