On May 2, the first Monday of the month, the Met Gala 2022 returned to New York City, and it was a star-studded night. The fundraiser event themed "In America: An Anthology of Fashion" after last year's "In America: A Lexicon of Fashion" included a "gilded glamour" dress code.

What does it mean to have "gilded glamour"? Well, there's a lot of space for interpretation here, but the Gilded Age was a time of extravagance for those who could afford it - of wealthy people going all out in every part of their life, especially with their clothing. It was a moment when "new money" and "old money" clashed, and there was a lot of buzz about technology and the future.
With bustle-like bumps and corsets, several participants made historical connections Monday night. Others went all out with their decorations. It was difficult to perform without the usual strong hitters, such as Rihanna, Beyoncé, Zendaya, and Lady Gaga. However, some people went well and above. Below, a look at who filled their shoes and who maybe didn’t.
2. Blake Lively Makes a Metallic Splash
Blake Lively, who is also the co-chair of the Met Gala, nailed the look in an exquisite mosaic-style gown. A crew of handlers is seen on the right assisting the actress in unfurling a matching — and sweeping — train for a dramatic reveal.
3. New York State of Mind
Lively claims her dress was inspired by New York City architecture, with colours reminiscent of Grand Central Station, elaborate details reminiscent of the Empire State Building, and a pale green colour scheme reminiscent of the Statue of Liberty.
4. Fashion’s (New?) First Couple
Believe it or not, Kim Kardashian pays tribute to Marilyn Monroe by wearing the same skintight gown she wore to sing "Happy Birthday" to President John F. Kennedy in 1962. Kim revealed on Instagram that the outfit she wore was stolen from Ripley's Believe It or Not!
Kim’s Met Gala accessory? Boyfriend Pete Davidson rocked a slim black suit and black shades to match.
5. Shawn Mendes Layers Up
In a tailored jacket that he eventually removed to expose a fitting double-breasted suit, Shawn Mendes evokes Jean Valjean.
Under the basic navy ensemble, the Canadian singer wore a turtleneck instead of a shirt and tie, revealing that his fashion taste is anything from drab.
6. Musgraves Fans Out
Kacey Musgraves, you’re a winner, baby! That doll skin against the black satin dress? Perfection. Walking the Met Gala carpet with a matching fan? Even better.
7. Maude Apatow Looks Euphoric
Her off-the-shoulder dress was designed by Miu Miu and covered in crystals and beaded fringe. Its cups and sleeves were made from black velvet, and the rest was entirely sheer and crafted from lace.
She completed the look with dark lipstick, a curled bob, and a layered diamond choker.
8. Evan Mock Is the One To Watch
Mock arrived at the gala in a custom yellow suit made by the designer and CFDA finalist Head of State.
9. For his first Met Gala, Jack Harlow went with a classic menswear look.
He wore a brown Givenchy suit made from satin, a thin tie, and dress shoes.
10. The fashion of the 1800s seemingly inspired Billie Eilish.
She wore an upcycled green-and-yellow corset dress with see-through sleeves and a purple flower attached to its neckline.
The Gucci design also had a cream-colored satin skirt with ruching.
11. Best Sparkle: Cardi B in Versace
Cardi B wore an embellished, form-fitting gold gown custom made for her by Versace. The piece took over 1,300 hours to create. The award-winning artist captured the gold in "Gilded Glamour" for sure.
12. Megan Thee Stallion perfected the gilded-glamour theme in gold.
She wore a strapless gown that had four waist cutouts, a bedazzled skirt, thigh-high slit, and feather-shaped shoulder pads.
Moschino created her dress to represent different types of diamonds, according to E! News.
13. Best Futuristic: Janelle Monáe in Ralph Lauren
While the dress code was old-timey, Janelle Monáe looked radiant with her reinterpretation of gilded glamour for the future.
The Grammy-nominated artist wore a sleeveless bedazzled gown with a showstopping headpiece that was custom-made by Ralph Lauren.
14. Camila Cabello chose a sustainable white gown for her appearance.
Atelier Prabal Gurung designed the look, which featured a crop top with criss-cross straps across her chest and waist.
Its skirt was even more bold — it had a long train and a ruffled piece with pastel fabric flowers underneath.
15. Normani embraced the Met Gala dress code with ruffles and a headpiece.
The singer put a modern spin on the "gilded glamour" dress code with a black two-piece designed by Christian Siriano that consisted of a crop top and a floor-length skirt.
The top had oversized, ruffled sleeves that matched the dropped-waist skirt, as well as a high neckline with cutouts flowing to the bodice.
A black hat with a bow on it added to the on-theme look.
16. Tommy Dorman Is Giving Us 13 Reasons… Why?
Is that a latex dress on the Met red carpet? While it may not be on-trend for the proceedings, we can’t deny that the 13 Reasons Why star knows how to pull off a lewk.
17.
Mindy Kaling has stepped out of her comfort zone when it comes to fashion in recent years, but the actress plays it safe in a Grecian-style dress that’s incredibly flattering yet tamer than other looks coming down the carpet tonight.
18. With Jon Batiste, It’s All In the Detail
Dapper and slick, singer and songwriter Jon Batiste is no stranger to accolades, snagging several awards at the 2022 Grammys, including Album of the Year.
While his suit looks simple, the details reveal much more care, rope knots emblazoned on the hem of the blazer and just-done bow tie to match.
19. Emma Stone rewore one of her wedding dresses to the Met Gala.
Stone looked ethereal in a knee-length, satin Louis Vuitton dress that had a ruffled trim and button detailing down the sides.
The gown at first appeared to be a tribute to the 1920s flappers, but the actress revealed she originally wore the dress to her wedding after-party in 2020.
Strappy, white heels and an updo tied the look together.
20. Joe Jonas & Sophie Turner Made Quite the Duo
Earlier this year, Sophie Turner announced her second child with Joe Jonas, and the star shows off her bump in a monochromatic look alongside the singer, who wore an asymmetrical white jacket.
The duo couldn’t look any better, especially Turner, whose sultry glam has us mesmerized.
