A 6-year old boy had to undergo face reconstruction surgery after he was attacked by family pet dog. Camdon Bozbell was at his grandmother's house in Schoolcraft, Michigan on April 18 and was attacked when he got up to get a snack by Chaos the five-year-old pit bull.

The grandmother ran out of the room after hearing the cries and managed to pull the dog away from the child but a lot of damage already had been done as Camdon suffered horrific injuries including a broken nose, skull fracture, and nerve damage.

'When I got to the hospital, I feared the worst,' the boy's mother Tristin Lent said.

Lent who works as a receptionist and a cleaner left her child with his grandmother after she was called in for work. It was only an hour later that she received a call from the Police and she had to drive 90 minutes to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo where she waited 30 minutes to see her son.

'They wouldn't let me see Camdon at first and then a nurse came out and said "good news he's breathing on his own" and I freaked out – I thought why wouldn't he be?' Lent said.

Camdon's whole face was wrapped in gauze so Lent had no idea about the intensity of injuries her child suffered. The boy had to have many stitches and has suffered permanent scarring. His nose will need to be rebuilt due to tissue loss.

'The first responders said it was the worse thing they had ever seen,' the mother said.

'And it was the worse day of my life. I spent a month crying for Camdon.'

It was unbelievable for Lent to see her child in so much pain that too by their family dog who has been around her kids for years and never shown any aggressive behavior. Lent said the family will never know why the dog attacked her son, whether it was related to the child's sudden movement or if Chaos wanted the food.

'He was called Chaos, but that name did not suit his temperament at all,' Lent explained.

She previously told Fox 17 that when she tells people the story she doesn't want to tell them the breed because of the stigma around pit bulls. Kalamazoo County Animal Control is investigating the case. The dog's current whereabouts is unclear.

'If the dog had attacked him an inch or two below and got Camdon's throat, my son would be dead,' Lent said as she warned parents not to leave their children alone with a dog.

'The dog was not even an inch from his eyes. I'm just happy his ears and eyes were okay.'

Camdon is a brave kid who rode the ambulance ride alone because of COVID restrictions and continued to express optimism when he was discharged from hospital on April 20 to recover at home, saying: 'I'm glad that dog didn't kill me, I didn't want to die.'

However his mother – who also has a nine-year-old daughter named Janessa - thinks he will have to undergo counseling at a later date.

A GoFundMe account has also been set by Camdon's aunt that has raised $40,000 of $2000 target. 'The scars don't bother Camdon but people stare in the grocery store and that upsets him, especially when they ask what happened,' Lent said.

'The trauma is not over. It's going to be something that we're going to deal with for the rest of his life.'
