"They were on top of us really before we knew what was happening," the boy's father retold the story of what happened. Him, his wife and son were at Gamestop buying a plush toy as a birthday gift for the kid's friend. "He pointed the gun and said get on the floor, then he pushed us on the floor."
The parents were told to lay on the ground with a gun pointed at them. One of the robbers grabbed the kid, but he wasn't having it. He fought back, the thug didn't find worth the effort so he let the boy go to be with his parents.
"I said out loud, ‘I need my son'. He broke free from them and came to us. He's a brave little boy, and he recognized he was in a dangerous situation," the father says. "And there was a stranger and he was trying to defend himself."
#2 The suspects were able to force the clerk to open the cash register and emptied it out before walking out of the store.
"The two suspects knew exactly what they wanted to do, and aggressively took over the store," says Officer Rick Goodale, a Montgomery County police spokesperson. "Video games can be very expensive. [GameStops] do deal with cash, so there's a lot of opportunity." The suspects struck at 9pm, just before closing, so this was well thought out.
"We don't want something like this to strike fear into him for a good portion of his life," the father said. "The best thing we can say to our son in this instance is that the bad guys have been found, and they are in jail." I couldn't agree more, better to fight that live in fear.
The police described the suspects as black men in their 20s, approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall, and weighing about 170 pounds.
