Little girl, 8, was taken to the principal's office over telling another female student she had a crush on her. Later, the Christian school expelled both the kids and told their mother her beliefs didn't align with theirs. "I asked him to have a sit-down meeting to discuss it and process it better and he refused, saying that 'nothing more needed to be discussed'."
8-year-old Girl Expelled From Christian School For Telling Another Female Student She Had Crush On Her
Girl, 8, expelled from a Christian school over having a crush on another female student
The little girl, who was a second-grader at Rejoice Christian School in Owasso, Oklahoma was expelled from her school for fancying a fellow female friend.
The mother, in an interview with CNN, said her daughter Chloe told another female student she had a crush on her last week. The kid was playing at that time and was immediately removed from the playground and was taken to the principal's office. She stayed there for few hours and even missed the class.
When the school finished, the mom Delanie Shelton took Chloe, 8, to the home. The mother was informed of the incident and was told by administrators not to bring her back until Friday.
Delanie said: "Before I was even called, the vice principal told Chloe that the Bible says that women can only have children with a man."
"[The vice principal] asked me how I feel about girls liking girls and I told her that I see no issue with it."
The school management expelled her 5-year-old son as well
Mom told in an interview that the school's superintendent called and told her the school was 'ending their partnership' with the Shelton family. The management also expelled her son, 5. Upon asking the reason, she was told that her beliefs didn't align with theirs.
The mother asked to have a sit-down meeting but was denied
The mother said;
"I was so blindsided. I was angry, hurt, betrayed, sad... so many different emotions. I just couldn't believe it."
"I asked him to have a sit-down meeting to discuss it and process it better and he refused, saying that 'nothing more needed to be discussed'."
The school's handbook says any form of sexual immorality goes against their beliefs
The superintendent Joel Pepin didn't make any public comment.
His statement provided to CNN says:
"Due to privacy and other factors, it is the school's policy to refrain from public comments regarding any particular student or family."
The school's handbook states that 'any form of sexual immorality' goes against its beliefs, and that this includes 'professing to be homosexual/bisexual'. It also says that those students who don't 'conform to the standards and ideals of work and life' at the school will forfeit the 'privilege' of attendance.
The mother says it was just a crush, not a relationship or a practice
The mother said;
"It wasn't a relationship nor a practice. Just a crush. To an 8-year-old, that could just mean that she really enjoys playing on the playground with her."
The girl received many messages of support from all over the US.
Delanie said:
"She's feeling so loved and supported now because of so many amazing people that have reached out to us."
