There are all kinds of crazy things on Youtube. Apparently, people who have had enough of cat videos have decided to make and share videos of people getting king-sized pimples getting popped or lanced.

This particular video depicts a woman getting lanced.

She has a huge purple/black blemish on her back, and the good doctor cuts it open and presses down, causing pus and blood to fly all over the place.

While the video doesn't show it, the doctor should presumably have also applied an antibiotic and bandage.

So what causes monster pimples? First off, they usually are not really pimples, but boils. Pimples and boils may look similar, but they have different causes.

A pimple is caused by a blocked hair follicle that is clogged by dead skin cells and too much oil.

Boils are caused by bacterial infections of the hair follicle, and Staphylococcus aureus or "staph" is usually the guilty party. When a boil first develops, it simply looks like a biggish pimple. It is raised and red like a pimple. Over time, the boil gets a lot bigger. Sometimes, a group of boils will grow together under a single head. That is called a carbuncle. While carbuncles can form anywhere, they usually appear on the neck or back, like the "giant pimple" on that unfortunate woman's back.

While pimples can go away on their own, boils and carbuncles require medical treatment. The doctor will lance the boil, especially if it's big, and then give the patient antibiotics to kill the bacteria. If a boil is untreated, the bacteria can spread throughout the body and cause infections in the heart or spinal cord.
