After Facing Backlash On His "Game Of Thrones" Cameo, Ed Sheeran Temporarily Deletes Twitter Account

The Shape of You singer took on the cameo role of a Lannister soldier on Sunday night’s return of the much-loved fantasy epic.

Meeting Arya Stark with his fellow comrades, the group eat dinner together and talk about the war – after she’s lured over to them by his singing.

The guitar-strumming singer spoke nine words in his three minutes on screen.

However, the short appearance did not sit well with viewers – and now he’s quit Twitter to step away from the backlash.

Anthony Ergo said: “Did anyone else see him and think, ‘That’s Ed Sheeran’?”

Charlie Long added: “It was more of a scene to incorporate Ed Sheeran. Pointless.”

And Bill Landis chipped in: “We have a finite amount of screen time but waste minutes on Ed Sheeran cameo.”

Deleting his account completely, fans were left stunned that he removed himself from the social network, despite previously leaving it un updated for extended periods of time.

He told The Sun: “I’ve come off Twitter completely. I can’t read it. I go on it and there’s nothing but people saying mean things.

“Twitter’s a platform for that. One comment ruins your day.”

However, within 24 hours the account was back up – with the noticeable deletion of all his tweets coming from after April 2015 onwards.

The 26-year-old crooner often takes breaks from his online presence and between his second album Multiply (X) and his latest release Divide (%), he spent a year away from the internet completely.

He still has an active Instagram account.

However, while he may not have taken Westeros by storm, Ed has a new destination – namely visiting the Simpsons in Springfield.

Confirming his appearance on the show, he posted a photo of his character on Instagram and wrote: "This year continues to be equally surreal and amazing.

"Watch out for this one, me and Lisa have a whole thing going on."
