Amber Heard tells the court that an intoxicated Johnny Depp kicked her in the back of his private jet after accusing her of having an affair with co-star James Franco - 'he called me a slut,' she says - and then locked himself in the bathroom, where she recorded him 'HOWLING.'
Amber Heard Reveals Johnny Depp 'Hated' James Franco, Suspected Affair
In a multi-million dollar defamation trial, Ms. Heard testified for the second day, portraying Mr. Depp as terribly disturbed by jealousy and drugs.
Mr. Depp is suing Ms. Heard for $50 million (£40 million) over an article where she claimed to be a victim of abuse.
She is suing for $100 million in return.
Ms. Heard said on Thursday that most of her ex-husband's anger arose from his assumption that she was dating James Franco, whom she claimed Mr. Depp "hated."
Mr. Franco co-starred in Pineapple Express and The Adderall Diaries with Ms. Heard.
During her testimony, she claimed that Depp was mad at her for taking the job with Franco. "He hated, hated James Franco and was already accusing me of kind of secretly having a thing with him in my past, since we had done Pineapple Express together," she said.
"He had already been upset with me and accused me in many arguments about not telling him about scenes that I had, if I had a kissing scene," Heard said.
That jealousy, she claimed, led an enraged Mr. Depp to interrogate her repeatedly on a trip from Boston to Los Angeles, during which he reportedly kicked her.
"He just kicked me in the back. I fell on the floor," she said. "No one said anything. No one did anything. It's like you could hear a pin drop on that plane."
"You could feel the tension. But nobody did anything. ... I felt so embarrassed that he could kick me to the ground in front of people," she claimed.
The court also heard a tape of Mr. Depp allegedly on the flight, which Ms. Heard said showed him "howling" while suffering from drug effects.
Ms. Heard claimed he met her in New York after the assault to apologize and prove he was sober and committed to change.
The event on the airplane has been mentioned before the jury several times. Mr. Depp said that he took Oxycodone tablets and fell asleep to avoid her.
Mr. Depp was occasionally observed shutting his eyes or wearing sunglasses throughout her evidence. He shook his head silently at one point.
Ms. Heard claims she got into a confrontation with Mr. Depp about his daughter Lily-Rose, who was around 14 at the time.
"She was so young," Ms. Heard said. "I felt protective."
Ms. Heard also recounted exchanging wedding vows in Mr. Depp's mother's living room, followed by a ceremony on his private island.
"It was complicated, but he was the love of my life," she said of her desire to marry him.
Detailing a discussion over a prenuptial agreement with Mr. Depp, she claimed that Mr. Depp told her that "the only way out of this is death".
"I didn't care either way, but I did feel it [the agreement] would eliminate suspicion or doubt, and it would make things easier," she added.
The "Aquaman" actress has alleged that she was physically, emotionally and sexually abused by Depp, who denies her allegations.
Thursday, she told the jury that Depp punched her and possibly broke her nose in a fight after the 2014 Met Gala.
"He was accusing me of flirting with a woman. We get back to the hotel room, he shoves me and grabs my collarbone. I remember he threw a bottle at me, missed me, hit the chandelier," she said.
"At some point, he just whacked me in the face," Heard said of the alleged incident. "I was unsure what that feeling was but I suspected I had a broken nose. And other than that, I remember my nose being swollen and discolored."
She also said Depp didn't want her to work, especially if the roles she considered involved sex scenes.
"Every time I got a script, it was what kind of, you know, how I was dressing? … Did I have a sex scene?"
Depp warned Heard that the "only way out of this is death," referring to their relationship, and she stated she stayed because she hoped he would become sober.
When she joined Depp in the Bahamas in August 2014 to help him detox from Roxicodone, Heard told the jury she went through "hell."
Throughout the week-long vacation, she characterized Depp as "up and down," at times "screaming" and attempting to flip a table that was fastened to the floor, and at others being "calm and sweet."
“He went up, down … mad,” she said. “He wanted to have sex a lot, which is not like Johnny at all.”
Last week, Depp testified for five days straight, discussing his career, drug and alcohol abuse history, and tumultuous marriage to Heard, which ended in divorce in 2017.
