In a strange and unsettling twist, a well-known paranormal investigator passed away while wrapping up a tour that featured the infamous 'possessed' Annabelle doll.

While plenty of folks might brush off the idea of ghosts or curses, many others couldn’t help but raise eyebrows given how everything unfolded.

If you’re unfamiliar, the scary Conjuring films actually draw inspiration from a real-life Raggedy Ann doll, which many believe to be either haunted or possessed by a sinister force.

The doll, which is typically kept locked away for safety, has a reputation that stretches far and wide. Some people are convinced it has caused chaos in any place it’s been.

Because of its eerie fame, the doll has been part of a traveling U.S. exhibition called Devil’s on the Run. For the most part, these tours have gone by without any major incidents and even sparked excitement among paranormal fans.

But that changed recently. Earlier this week, officials confirmed that while the doll was on a short three-day exhibition run, one of the investigators working with it suddenly died.

The investigator in question, Dan Rivera, was a respected figure in the paranormal world. A U.S. Army veteran from Bridgeport, Connecticut, he had appeared on spooky shows like the Travel Channel’s Most Haunted Places.

Authorities confirmed that Rivera, who was 54 years old, died unexpectedly on Sunday, July 13, while on tour with the infamous doll.

Since his passing made headlines, the internet has been buzzing with theories. Some have even speculated that something strange happened involving the Annabelle doll.

Francis Dutrow, the Adams County coroner, spoke with People and clarified that when Rivera was found in a hotel in Straban Township on Sunday, July 13, the doll was not at the location.

"There was no Annabelle doll present." putting to rest some of the wild claims floating around on social media.

Dutrow added that his office is actively looking into the cause of Rivera’s death, though the exact details haven’t been confirmed just yet.

The official cause of death is still pending and won’t be available until autopsy results are finalized, which could take a few months.

In a follow-up statement, personnel from the coroner’s office mentioned that nothing suspicious was noted in the scene and Rivera was found alone in his hotel room.

Since the news broke, heartfelt tributes have been pouring in to honor Rivera’s life and his contributions to the paranormal community.

One touching message came from fellow ghost hunter and investigator Ryan Buell, who paid tribute to Rivera in a heartfelt social media post.

In a message shared to TikTok, he wrote: "I have so many amazing memories with this guy. Just as recently as two months ago, we traveled around the country and introduced a whole new generation to Ed and Lorraine Warren's legacy."
