A BEAUTY blogger was left with horrific facial burns after laser treatment for a small birthmark went horribly wrong.
#1 Molly Martinson was left with horrific burns after seeking laser treatment for her birthmark
Molly Martinson had to have plastic surgery after the "botched" procedure, to remove a small port wine mark on her cheek, left her scarred.
Now the 23-year-old has shared her experience on YouTube to warn others considering laser surgery to do "extensive research" on their surgeon beforehand.
#2 The pretty 23-year-old said she looked like she'd been exposed to radiation
Molly decided to have the birthmark removed after learning that a thickening of the blood vessels which cause it could potentially damage her eyesight.
She said: "I thought of getting it removed when I was younger, not because I thought it looked ugly but because tons of people throughout my life always asked what happened to my face and never left me alone about it."
Molly, from Pittsburgh, US, finally sought laser treatment in March 2015 and after the first two sessions, she experienced slightly bruising on her face, which healed within ten days, as expected.
#3 Molly Martinson has now warned people seeking treatment to research the surgeon
But after the third treatment, in June, she felt excruciating pain.
She said: "When the surgeon handed me the mirror, my stomach literally turned upside down.
"There was bruising all across my cheek, even where I don't have a birth mark. I physically felt nauseous and started crying instantly. I was appalled."
She said the burns took almost a month to heal.
She added: "I didn't want to go out in public for days because it looked like I was exposed to radiation.
#4 Molly only sought treatment after doctors said her birthmark could spread
"I did go out a few times because I simply had to and everyone just stared at me in disbelief."
Molly found a new surgeon and reconstructive surgery on her face to treat the scarring.
She still has intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment to further reduce scarring and pigmentation on the skin, once a month.
#5 Molly needed reconstructive surgery after the treatment went badly wrong
Now she is warning others not to rush into laser treatment, whether it's for hair removal, acne scars or to fade birthmarks, without doing their research first.
She admitted: "I didn't do thatand I wish I would have after finding out the same surgeon burned someone who got laser hair removal.
#6 Molly was born with the birthmark and only decided to have treatmen recently
"I would also tell them to be up front with the surgeon or medical professional and let them know they are aware of the extreme dangers."
